RFK is worried about food dyes. Meanwhile at our hotel lobby breakfast the main option is a Jimmy Dean sausage sandwich with 37g of fat and 48% daily recommended sodium, in only 500 calories.
But sure, make sure there isn’t any yellow dye in the cheese on it.

If he could get maybe a few million votes, I’d understand that there are some weirdo fringe who like him. But winning an election? a 38% approval rating? It just scrambles my brain to comprehend how people look at all this and say, "yeah, I want that".

I feel like after decades of meddling in Latin America, and two decades mired in Iraq for no reason, it should be more of a “What the Absolute Fuck?!?!?!” moment that we’ve been blowing up random boats in the Caribbean and are on the precipice of invading Venezuela for no reason.

It’s a bummer that plane seats are now so close together that you literally don’t have space to open a laptop …or almost even read a book.

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric

This is an epidemic aflicting every city. Since 2022'ish it feels like literally every time I'm at a light in Denver someone runs the red.

What's hard with dispersion toward independent journalism is I can't pay for all of it. Economies of scale work & $9.95 a month for each substack doesn't seem sustainable. It feels like the independent journalism sector needs to find ways to aggregate efficiently.

Things are pretty bleak. This administration is causing real harm to the sector - uncertainty is high, budgets are slashed, there is no way to backfill the gaps. And yet, as alsways in this work, nonprofit folks are perservering through the stress to keep helping people.

3. the two bright spots are 1) nonprofit staff are perservering through these difficult times and doing the hard work. and 2) for direct service orgs, the community is stepping up to help their fellow citizens, like with increased food donations in the face of SNAP cuts. 4/

2. the philanthropic sector is not yet stepping up. Funding is more competitive but nobody has yet seen philanthropy opening it's coffers to keep grantees goign through this period. They are "open to conversation" but little in the way of funding action. 3/

1. the uncertainty and chaos of federal funding cuts making planning impossible, budgets are being slashed, and everyone is in survival mode. The funding picture is bleak and the sector is under real strain. 2/

I facilitated a discussion group today with nonprofit leaders to discuss how the sector is doing as we near the end of 25. Things are bleak out there. 3 themes emerged. 1/

This is the only message that may salvage Dems.
The “my constituents want us to work together” isn’t an answer and neither is “our strategy wasn’t working” (because it very clearly was, they just didn’t have the stomach for it)

Honestly, how does someone get to the stature of being a United States Senator, with all the paid staff for support, and still put up something like this?

Dems should be flooding airwaves with “Donald trump is for they/them” ads showing him schmoozing with billionaires at a Gatsby party and with Epstein and Maxwell.

Ask him why so many air traffic controllers are retiring at once. Ask him if it has anything to do with Reagan firing 11K union strikers in 1981 and having to replace them all at once. Ask him how the mass firings this year will impact us the same way 40 years from now. Ask him, Jake.

Can we start a #boycottFIFA26 movement?
I LOVE the World Cup, it is the greatest sporting event, but FIFA is a despicable organization, inflicting real harm with their corruption, and this "peace" prize for the world's most deplorable person is beyond ridiculous even by their standards.
