Easy mode | Robert Hutton | The Critic Magazine “I’m thrilled that we’re talking about this,” Kemi Badenoch told Robert Peston, a look of pure horror on her face. The subject was the Conservative Party’s immigration policy, which she may or may not…

Easy Mode: my SKETCH of politicians struggling even when the difficulty is turned all the way down.

Caerphilly result, from a progressive rather than partisan point of view, is great. 1. The more people wake up to the power of turning out/voting tactically the better; 2. Given Lab still has four years in gov't with a big majority, the more it is terrorised away from regressive policies the better.

"15 years ago, Polish workers came here to find opportunity. Now Poland is growing twice as fast as we are," says Kemi Badenoch.

Any ideas what may have happened in the interim?

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. Except it doesn’t bend on its own—it bends because we pull it in the direction of justice. What keeps me hopeful during times like these is being surrounded by people who are doing just that.

Resisting Faragism offers the Lib Dems a rare clarity of purpose | Rafael Behr Ed Davey’s rallying cry in defence of moderate, liberal Britain might give some coherence to a party with a reputation for opportunism, says Guardian columnist Rafael Behr

Trump has dragged the US to the abyss and Nigel Farage would do the same to Britain. Here’s how to stop him It’s not too late to puncture the Reform leader’s populist myth. His ‘make Britain great again’ act is out of step with the British people, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland

"Reform’s opponents need to expose every one of these gaps between Farage and the electorate, recasting Farage as a figure of the fringes ... you cannot delay – otherwise the freedoms you thought would last for ever can vanish"

What we are witnessing is an outright abuse of power.

This administration is attacking critics and using fear as a weapon to silence anyone who would speak out. Media corporations — from television networks to newspapers — are capitulating to these threats.

Let’s be clear about what happened to Jimmy Kimmel Trump’s most brazen attack on free speech yet.

After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.

Brexit is the toxic epicentre of the political shitshow we now have to endure. It promoted idiocy and deceit, endorsed racism, divided us, made us poorer, weaker, less safe and less sane. It’s belittled the country, killed the Tory party and given birth to Reform.
A relentless klaxon of failure.

Apart from anything else, UK politicians of the centre and left should all realise that there's massive kudos and traction to gain from attacking both Musk and Trump because the vast majority of Britons absolutely loathe them both.

The private family life of twice divorced Nigel Farage, who had children with both of his ex wives.... and now lives with his girlfriend.... is none of my business... just as the private family lives of everyone else are none of his.

Elon Musk openly called for violence on our streets yesterday.

I hope politicians from all parties come together to condemn his deeply dangerous and irresponsible rhetoric.

Britain must stand united against this clear attempt to undermine our democracy.

Wednesday's march in London against Trump's state visit is the opportunity to rally against right-wing extremism.

2pm Portland Place

5pm Parliament Square

Trump, MAGA, Musk, and their attacks on human rights, accountability, and the rule of law, aren't welcome here!

Appalled by the violent scenes of police being attacked at the Tommy Robinson rally today. Those responsible should face the full force of the law.

These far right thugs do not speak for Britain.

Absolutely unbelievable to see egregious anti-science nonsense being given an airing like this. Well done @lewisgoodall.com for calling it out. “A broad church… freedom of speech” - and that’s the excuse for platforming not just misinformation but disinformation.

The only country to have left the ECHR in this century is Russia... and they were expelled.

Is that really the example you want Britain to follow?

Reading the headlines, you would be convinced that Reform has absolute support.

The fact is that a majority of the British people dislike everything about Reform and Farage. Most of us are broadly supportive of immigation and proud of our role providing asylum to people escaping persecution.

Open Letter: Keep the UK in the ECHR Sign the European Movement UK's open letter now if you agree that the UK must remain in the ECHR.

The ECHR is the backbone of the Good Friday Agreement. With Reform UK calling for the UK to withdraw, we need to speak out.

Add your name to our letter to the Government, and make sure that Nigel Farage's divisive policies don't gain more traction.

Where has this ludicrous ECHR "debate" even come from.

I've never once met an ordinary member of the public who's said to me, "Do you know what? We REALLY need to leave the ECHR."

It's just a new right wing talking point because every other shit idea they've foisted on us has run out of steam.
