I got a nice message from a professor at Harvard when this was published, a fun fact I've dropped into every conversation when I need to self-aggrandize.
Including now, welcome to my self-aggrandizement on Blue Sky. Hope you enjoy how important I think I am.

Hello #academicsky! Last week I asked about the books, now I would like to ask if people would share the first papers they published in politics or sociology (Open access please!)
Looking for examples other than my own to demystify the academic journey for undergrads

I think sarcasm and humour works well for undergrads. I spend a lot of time trying to break them away from the idea that you can't be yourself in academia, and you don't need to write the stuffiest and densest book possible to be successful, books like this help.

I'll add that to my reading list as well!

Great picks! 'On Bullshit' is a great way of getting them to think outside of the box a bit, plus its always good to shock them a little bit!

"Freakonomics' was the book that gave me the 'academic awakening' when I was younger.
Now I'm pulling together a reading list for my first year students of easily accessible books to inspire them.
So here I am, coming to #academicsky to ask, what was the first book that hit that spot for you?
22.11.2024 10:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 5 π 0
Did this for a recent small tournament, Iβd keep it voluntary as some factions just canβt do it and be competitive. But good way of rewarding other types of list building and some people specifically went for it
