I really f**king love Hong Kong, and Funassyi! Bluesky user #55,617 -- joined in May 2023! -- but am also "over there" too. Yes, I'm still straddling between Twitter and here (because there still are not enough Hongkongers and Funatomo here!).
Thanks! Will give that website a look (but NOT Taobao).

13.10.2025 23:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I will be taking a social media break soon. Plan to be back before too long though. In the meantime, hope you folks will have TLs that won't be all negative and depressing!

13.10.2025 14:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The (funny -- peculiar, maybe also haha) thing is that I love rollercoasters but this ride scares me more... probably because I imagine one spends a longer time at a high height on it than rollercoasters (which go much faster)! ๐
13.10.2025 14:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This is a key difference between Hong Kong and mainland China ... for now. The question is for how much longer, because I do think this is the future of religion in Hong Kong, eventually. GovHK likes to say freedom of religion is guaranteed in HK. Yeah, well, it's "guaranteed" in the mainland too.
13.10.2025 13:39 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I think you're thinking of the Naruto Whirlpools? Same sea but different bridge. (I think that one's the Onaruto Bridge, and it's to the east of the Seto Ohashi.)
13.10.2025 12:54 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Funassyi and cameraman on a scary looking (especially if you're an acrophobe!) amusement park ride on Washuzan, Okayama Prefecture, that looks out to the Seto Naikai (Seto Inland Sea), Seto Ohashi (Great Seto Bridge) and nearby islands.
Funassyi has said that it no longer accepts crazy TV jobs (that had it running from explosions, being parachuted from a plane, going deep-sea diving, etc.) but that doesn't mean it doesn't indulge in some pretty hair-raising activities from time to time still. E.g., ๐ from this past weekend.๐

13.10.2025 09:45 โ ๐ 86 ๐ 39 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Out of curiosity, had this person you disagreed ever seen Rothko works "in the flesh" rather than just in print, etc.? There are some art works that I do think are best appreciated in their original form/up close, where you can really behold their textures/size/etc.
13.10.2025 09:42 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Gui Minhai (aka Michael Gui) is one of five men associated with Hong Kong's Causeway Bay Books (which sold books on Chinese politics and politicians that were not available in mainland China) who were abducted by the Chinese authorities in late 2015. A Swedish citizen, he was abducted in Thailand.

Economic boycotts can be a powerful thing if enough people take part.
Something I learnt from the Anti-Apartheid Movement, which began as the Boycott Movement, set up to persuade shoppers to boycott goods from apartheid South Africa.
(Oh, and sports boycotts can be effective too!)
Really DIU.

(Second time that this meme has come my way; different answer given by me here... both film related.)
An 89 year old man. Arrested for threatening national security. The national there being the People's Republic of China. A very large and supposedly very powerful country.
13.10.2025 04:37 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0In recent years, I've seen a number of "washed out" looking road signs and such here in Hong Kong, and wondered if the degradation was due to tear gas...
13.10.2025 04:35 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A few years ago The Lancet picked up an estimate from Bloomberg that ~90% of the HK population tasted tear gas during the 2019 pro-democracy protests. The article was filed under oncology because no one knows what happens when a city gets persistently tear gassed over a long stretch of time.

Also, how "World City" is Hong Kong when 80% of the tabulated "tourism footfall" between January to August has been from just one country -- and, in fact, being domestic tourists (since Hong Kong is, ahem, part of China)?
