The thing about the moment we are in is we have been here before. During the Brexit Referendum campaign, the Johnson years, and now with Farage's ascent. Our established press has played a role in why we have got to this point in British politics. What's happening at the BBC now was an inevitability

Notable that the supposedly “patriotic” wing of British politics wants to destroy / defund almost all of our national institutions

Alan Carr should legit be a spy. Not only did he win Traitors but just by taking his specs off and not smiling he transforms himself into a man with questionable views on Alan Carr

To be fair, I doubt Farage gets much pleasure from remembering that his side lost World War Two.

Joyce Carol Oates
@Joyce... 17h O
So curious that such a wealthy man never posts anything that indicates that he enjoys or is even aware of what virtually everyone appreciates— scenes from nature, pet dog or cat, praise for a movie, music, a book (but doubt that he reads); pride in a friend's or relative's accomplishment; condolences for someone who has died; pleasure in sports, acclaim for a favorite team; references to history. In fact he seems totally uneducated, uncultured. The poorest persons on Twitter may have access to more beauty & meaning in life than the
"most wealthy person in the world."

Yes, I read the article – that proposal definitely hits me. I do understand there are no good options for this govt & they’re still trying to fix the Tories’ mess, but at this point it’ll honestly just be better to simply raise income tax rather than implementing lots of damaging tweaks like this

On Twitter I’m not the only millennial (& Gen Z) annoyed by this. Our generations already know we won’t get the state pension when we get old & there’s no final salary pensions for us either. But this govt seems to want those of us who are not rich but still trying to fund our futures, to get fucked
09.11.2025 13:20 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0
There are plenty of us earning FAR less than £100,000 using salary sacrifice that will be hit too. Those of us who are young enough to know we won’t get a state pension either & been trying to provide for our own retirements best as we can in a cost of living crisis. But we can get fucked, I guess?!

Your rights if a hotel refuses to serve English food on a foreign holiday
A consumer rights champion has explained the rules after one woman had to eat Greek food every day on her Greek holiday
The article is titled "your rights if a hotel refuses to serve English food on a foreign holiday", but the actual advice is buried low down in the article and will disappoint those who travel abroad but don't want to eat "any of that foreign muck".

If we want nicer, more productive politics, we could start by getting rid of “briefing against”: a thing that doesn’t exist in other countries, as far as I know. Politics types use it to anonymously backstab, slander, wreck and undermine each other, with no rules except what seems fine to the hacks.

Occasionally I remember that Keir Starmer stood down Labour's popular young candidate in the seat that Farage went on to win, because he was jealous that the lad was getting more attention on Tik-Tok than he was. Literally sent him across the country to campaign somewhere he wasn't a candidate.
