A screenshot of a news article from the verge. It reads “With Gemini, Williams says, you can just give the details of the message and a tone. Maybe you're running late, so you say, "Tell my spouse I'm 15 minutes late and send it in a jokey tone." Instead of having to think of what to say, the bot will write it for you.”
Grounds for divorce imo

I’ve written the chapter on Duchess Kitty’s 1938 by election for this - featuring skulduggery and dirty tricks! Honoured to be in some quite intimidating company.

'Why we must commemorate VJ day' explains son of soldier who fought in war
A retired lieutenant colonel whose father served in the 'Forgotten Army' has described the importance of marking VJ Day.
My dad, speaking about his dad (the one in the dashing hat). I’ve read the letters my Chindit grandfather wrote home from Burma & India. “Do people at home know what we’re doing?” he asks, before he was invalided out of the jungle.

Lovely spread in today’s Glasgow Herald for Red Duchess (though why they used a large picture of Nancy Astor I do not know - sort of makes my point that the duchess really ought to be remembered alongside, or ideally ahead of, Astor)

My biggest problem with childhood swimming lessons was that I’m incredibly short sighted so I just couldn’t see anything. Prescription goggles as an adult changed everything!

And also v few schools are able to offer swimming lessons now, so it has to be learned at home.
I’d still say reading is just about the most important skill.

Same here. I remain a holdout because on principle I wouldn't want my book fed into it. I worked on it for 5 years, spending a lot of time in non-digitised archives, and I worry that if AI gobbles it up then no one will actually buy/read my book.

Sorry to hear that. In Hackney reports of attacks on the Jewish community and their schools/homes/businesses are sadly frequent.

In her constituency, there is a large community of Hasidic Jews who are very identifiable from a distance, so it’s doubly weird to say.

For nearly 40 years, Diane Abbott has represented the UK’s largest Hasidic Jewish community, a community of people who are very visibly Jewish and who suffer for it. She is not wildly popular in that community. You can see why.

I currently work freelance, so I don't have payslips. I submit invoices which my clients pay. (And of course the royalties will be rolling in next year 😜). Bit confused about whether Darren Jones thinks I'm a working person or not.

tbh, we holiday almost entirely in the British Isles, usually in Scotland, because anywhere else we might consider flying usually seems to be even hotter. At least on the West Coast you're never more than a couple of days away from a lovely bit of drizzle.

Next summer, could we have a bit less of who's at Wimbledon each day? Pages and pages of the paper every day with photos of people watching tennis. Even duller than tennis itself.
