Chronic pain science has advanced. Why are treatments stuck in the past?
Science had its 'chronic Pain revolution.' So why is treatment still broken, delayed and out of reach?
Chronic pain remains a major challengeโdespite scientific progress, many patients still face delays, stigma, and limited options. I shared thoughts with @newsweek.com on why scientific advances havenโt always translated into better care.

What do you see when you stare at this grid of line segments: a series of rectangles, or a series of circles?
The way you perceive this optical illusion may tie back to the visual environment that surrounds you, a recent preprint suggests. scim.ag/4kTxbmd

The Shingles Vaccine and Reduction of Dementia
A compelling new study adds to the body of data supporting some protection provided by the vaccine
A major paper @nature.com this week found a significant decline in dementia after an outdated Shingles vaccine.
I've reviewed the study and many other relevant ones here

This photograph shows a female standard fancy ratโa domesticated variant for the pet trade. That rats make good pets is not surprising when considering the long history of their close associations with humans. Although brown and black "wild" rats do spread some infectious diseases, we have recently learned about more-positive attributes, including quite how adept, adaptable, and even fun-loving they are.
A special issue of Science explores the complex and close associations rats share with humansโfrom their ubiquity in the human environment to their crucial role as biomedical models.
