There’s a framework that helps leaders think through policies that might seem fair and neutral but result in some people having disadvantages others don’t. It's called Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, which has been effectively outlawed by Trump’s administration.

Jessie Hoffman has been executed, his attorney says.

A D.A. told jurors Hoffman had "ice water in his veins." But what's colder than killing a man after holding him captive almost 30 years? A defense attorney said he was with his guilty client to make sure the state did things right.

But there's no right way to do what Louisiana's about to do.

I understand that his lawyers can't make the argument that I'm making, that the death penalty is wrong, period. They have to find something else to argue. In this case, they're arguing that using nitrogen gas is painful and cruel.

But an execution is cruel on its face. Pain or no pain.

The new policy treats people as freeloading loiterers until they prove otherwise and says staff “may ask for help from law enforcement” to have them removed. It’s difficult to cultivate a third space when you’re adopting a policy that makes baristas narcs.
