It never applied to news content, and most of the "opposing viewpoints" were presented as part of a taped broadcast on Sunday mornings - shows planned well in advance. There was no live point/counter-point discussions as many people claim.

Stations still do this today, w/o the Doctrine.

The LOCAL STATIONS have to be licensed. Even the stations owned by the networks (like the one I work for) carry their OWN licenses. ABC et al. might OWN the stations, but the STATIONS hold their own licenses.

An FCC license goes with the TRANSMITTER, not the owner.

It apparently needs explaining to YOU.

Only a small portion of the MSM is made up of LOCAL TV.

The local station I work for does 90% LOCAL NEWS. Out of a one-hour newscast, we spend 10-minutes re-capping the national news and THAT'S IT. It's all local from there on.

In other words, if someone had asked the station for airtime for their opposing viewpoints, the station was required to give it to them - usually at 6am on Sunday morning.

the FD required stations to OFFER airtime for opposing viewpoints. They were not required to present opposing viewpoints unless such viewpoints were offered.
