Oh yeah, 90s Mariners were also the Kingdome which I had never been to (but another 90s Seattle staple, Almost Live, left me a lasting impression)!

I can relate growing up in Vancouver. 90s Mariners were Griffey Jr, Edgar, and Randy Johnson, the #51 (& former Expo) before Ichiro arrived in the aughts.

But Go #BlueJays, all the way!

Timely for trade talks for those countries but especially for #Canada since PM Mark Carney is in Washington to meet with POTUS today reportedly to talk about at least steel tariffs (so aluminum would fit as well). #cdnpoli #cdnecon

The NDP Leadership Race: A Labour Party Leader From....Labour? Canada's left party may be undertaking the bold experiment of indulging in overt, unapologetic class politics. Risks include energizing members and winning.

A new NDP leadership candidate is talking about workers and class politics, and drawing on his credibility as a labour leader.

Have we got a live one, here?

Consider also how populists rely on characteristically simple but faulty solutions to complex problems. Populists need power to overcome these policy faults as well as opposition which is why they can't afford to lose political support, libertarian or otherwise.

The Chicks - Not Ready To Make Nice (Official Video)
YouTube video by dixiechicksVEVO The Chicks - Not Ready To Make Nice (Official Video)

Didn't help the (Dixie) Chicks after they faced very heavy backlash when they spoke out at a 2003 London concert against ex POTUS GW Bush over Iraq. This 2006 song remains a testament of the battle they endured.

'Valueless spectacle': World champion Evan Dunfee speaks out against Enhanced Games | CBC News The world gold medalist from Richmond, B.C., is using his elevated profile to speak out against a new sport venture that does not ban or test for performance-enhancing drugs.

His victory in the World Championship 35 km race walk last week was wonderful already.
His speaking out against the Enhanced Games is even better.

I would be keeping an eye on this process. And if I were a trade-exposed sector, or a US-owned subsidiary located in Canada, I would be working hard to get US owners, US clients & US suppliers to be visible and vocal in this process.

Port of Vancouver still ships more met coal than thermal as the stats below show. Why it dropped at Westshore is the expansion at Neptune in the inner harbour. It's half owned by Teck/Elk Valley so it shifted a lot of met coal exports there starting in 2021. @seandunn.bsky.social

I presume it's "The prime minister resembles the Liberals of the 1990s" line as nonsense? Here's the context that is familiar with those who remember the government under Jean Chretien and Paul Martin.

China delays final ruling in canola dispute with top supplier Canada China on Friday prolonged its probe into Canadian canola imports, buying six more months for negotiations that could ease a year-long trade dispute sparked by Ottawa's tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.

The 100% tariffs China announced in March were for canola oil & meal while the 75.8% ones in August were for seed. Meantime, China just announced a 6 month extension of their #canola probe as a Canadian delegation arrives there to talk trade issues. #cdnecon #cdnpoli

Trump started this dispute but since Canadian exports to the US compliant with CUSMA are exempt to current Trump tariffs, it was fair for Canada to do the same on retaliatory tariffs for US goods also under that FTA. Still holds a line, restarts talks, & shows CUSMA still has value to the Americans.

23.08.2025 17:39 β€” πŸ‘ 12    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

In that case, just as Canadian exports are exempt to the US 35% levy, fine if using CUSMA as the limit to what retaliatory tariffs could be dropped looks reasonable while still standing ground to a little extent (as well as keeping the steel, aluminum, and auto retaliation).

Considering Canadian exports to the US compliant with CUSMA are exempt to current Trump tariffs, seems reasonable if the retaliatory tariffs being removed are on goods also under that free trade agreement but let's see what the PM says soon.
