Guess which one of these vehicles has a motor that prevents it from going too fast for the safety of others?

Struggling Downtowns Are Looking to Lure New Crowds Traditional business districts in cities like Chicago and Portland are still waiting for office workers to return. Can younger residents and families fill the gap?

if you want more families living downtown - cities need to legalize mid-rise single stair buildings

this is literally 90% of urban multifamily housing outside the US and canada

friend and I had drinks with her cousin and his 7yo kid in Marseille and he brought us to this pedestrian square that's basically lots of terraces with a playground in the middle so the adults can do lunch/drinks/dinner while keeping an eye on their playing kids and......why is this not everywhere

Ted Wheeler created PEMO by emergency order to sidestep then city council and extended that order to embed the Metro Chamber and Neighborhood Associations in the new form of government. It's time to dismantle this group.

I wish cities in the US didn't hate houseless people so much that they won't increase the amount of urban public space.

Our infrastructure is crumbling, Social Security won't be there for my generation, public services are being criminally defunded, damage is being done to the nation via gleeful, open looting that will take a generation reverse, but TV has got y'all arguing about 4 trans girls who wanna play soccer.

SF condo owners are suing themselves onto a mortgage blacklist Builders are liable for defects in new construction projects in California, but a system built around litigation has choked development and stalled sales.

Condo defect liability is *very* wonky but we absolutely need to fix it to make urban homeownership available to middle-class people.

If we don't get this right, ~all the new apartments will continue to be rentals and the only new starter homes for ownership will be in exurban sprawl.

Move Over, Training Wheels: There’s a Better Way to Teach a Kid to Ride a Bike The six bike experts we talked to all agree: The balance bike method is the best way to teach a kid to ride a bike.

If you’ve ever struggled to learn to ride a bike, try ditching the pedals and focusing on balance first. It’s a simple trick that works for kidsβ€”and adults too! πŸ€“πŸš²

good zoning (Spokane's middle housing code is probably best in the country) + good permitting = good housing production

An amazing jump in density, yet @pbotinfo.bsky.social still insists on curb parking everywhere.

This whole dynamic is completely broken. Ad hoc upzones are release valve on the incoherent general beliefs around density.

Apartments should be legal everywhere. That's the real battle and the litmus test for being pro-housing.

Until we pass a nationwide ban on gerrymandering (which we need), Democrats should gerrymander every state to the fullest extent. 52-0 in CA, 17-0 in IL, and so on. No more unilateral disarmament. Time to get serious about fighting back.

The Mothership Vortex: An Investigation Into the Firm at the Heart of the Democratic Spam Machine How a single consulting firm extracted $282 million from a network of spam PACs while delivering just $11 million to actual campaigns.

The annoying spam texts destroying the Democratic brand:

$678M raised through those spam tactics

$282M to one consulting firm: Mothership Strategies.

$11M to actual campaigns (1.6%)

The party isn’t just treating donors like marksβ€”it’s being fleeced itself yet continues to back Mothership.

Greater Toronto got its Greenbelt in 2005. It took 20 years for the City of Toronto to partially legalize sixplexes.

I think, if you want a greenbelt, you need to legalize substantial density *first*.

Not just sixplexes. Single-stair mid-rises everywhere (high-rises around all subway stations).
