Federal judge blocks federalized guard from deploying to Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek said Oregon is β€œnot a military target,” and said federal officials are trying to antagonize and provoke conflict outside the ICE facility.

Judge Karin Immergut’s ruling capped a dramatic weekend that included President Trump sending California National Guard members to Oregon and ordering others from Texas.

"I grant plaintiffs second motion for a TRO."

Federalized Texas and California Guard to Portland is a "DIRECT CONTRAVENTION" of court's TRO from Saturday.

Apparently inspired by yesterday's embarrassing loss in court, Trump has ordered California Gov. Gavin Newsom to send 300 of that state's National Guard members to Portland. Oregon Gov. Kotek says 100 have already arrived, while at the ICE facility, federal agents are growing more violent.

The transformation along the waterfront is amazing! I had not been down there on my last few trips to Seattle. I have to admit, though, that I could have used some more shade there today. Living in the Pacific Northwest has dampened my San Diego roots an tolerance for hot sunshine.

FYI, the section I walked down and posted the photos from is between Lenora and Stewart streets -- a few blocks south of the area with Amazon HQ and the streetcar.

Pike Place Market car ban extended amid uptick in foot traffic Citing positive feedback, increased visitors and the upcoming World Cup, the Market is continuing its car-free experiment through next spring.

"Market leaders aren’t yet ready to pull the trigger on permanently restricting cars, but a return to the days of vehicular free-for-all β€” when tourist vehicles would awkwardly inch through summer crowds β€” is looking increasingly unlikely."

Speaking of street transformations, the new restrictions motor vehicles on Pike Place outside the market made me enjoy the place far more then my visit in 2008.
The pilot project was a window of opportunity (street repair work), a common origin for street transformations.(repost with gif)

Research from Tim Althoff and coauthors links moving to more walkable cities to more walking, and vice versa. This type of "natural experiment" research is rare and very valuable.
