It turns out making streets safe & efficient for all road users is not that complicated if you make people, not cars, the user you are designing for.

While driving cars, per se, is not killing all insects, cars degrade habitats, produce toxins, allow sprawl, and force us to consume more and more resources. The earth suffers, as do all creatures that live here, including us.

Cars have degraded our environment, economy, and lives.

Forced car dependency makes us poorer, less healthy, and disconnected to our natural world.

The first step of a cure is to recognize that we have a car problem. Most of us don't even see where we are through our bug-splattered windshields.

Both front and back lights are powered by dynamo. We think the bulbs are original from 1935 too! This bike ended up in the BikeLoud branch in Rotterdam where the manager is assembling a bike museum of sorts.

I volunteer a few times a week at BikeFlip, a company that refurbishes & rents bikes to kids + adults.

Last week, I had the pleasure of working on a Dutch bike built in 1935 w everything but the tires original. Even the dynamo lights.

There is a one-story garage under the building. I haven't counted the spaces. Maybe 50? People also bring cargo bikes and expensive e-bikes inside to the garage or courtyard storage sheds.
