This marks the first time in tournament history that a Women’s Cricket World Cup will be officiated entirely by women, a feat made possible by the ICC’s work across many years to support, elevate and empower women in cricket.

OK this latest press release from the ICC has seriously pissed me off.

The VERY FIRST World Cup in 1973 was entirely umpired by women.

Maybe pause a minute from puffing yourselves up to read a history book? (I can recommend a good one... 😂)

“As for so-called "civility"-this is 1 more way wealthy white women silence dissent. I refuse to be "civil" in the face of incivil policies & legislation that target working class women. This is class war & deserves to be treated as such. Civility has no place in this attack on the working classes.”

This is the worst punishment handed down EVER in our history. The worst on record was 3 days! When Tangata whenua resist, colonial powers reach for maximum penalty. This is a warning shot to all of us to fall in line. E kore rawa matau e tuohu!

Found it. 'The Impact of Equal Pay on Poverty and the Economy', a report put out by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, which shows that "Providing equal pay to women… would cut [family] poverty in half, falling from 8.0 percent to 3.8 percent".

The Transfeminist Manifesto by Emi Koyama @eminism.org is another text I'm glad to have read:

"sex and gender are both socially constructed; furthermore, the distinction
between sex and gender is artificially drawn as a matter of convenience"

(Winston's "biological reality" is just rubbish)

A trans history of gay liberation in New Zealand Trans women – particularly Māori trans women – were 'the very first freedom fighters in the gay movement'.

Always in awe of Will Hansen's work but especially loved this piece -- Trans communities were the 'backbone' of gay lib in aotearoa.

The moment Peters and his ilk start addressing our rates of intimate partner violence, sexual violence, pay equity, safeguarding access to abortion…is the moment I say

Well done, now you’re addressing women’s rights.

Cis men are the biggest predators of cis women.

The end.

If you actually wanted to protect women you'd be spending zero energy trying to define us and one thousand energy trying to eradicate intimate partner violence. #nzpol

My photo shows the ruins of an eight-sided Roman brick lighthouse with four stepped levels. There is a doorway at ground level and narrow rectangular window openings above on the upper three levels. It stands 15.8 m high and is 12.2 metres wide at the base. Roman fabric survives to a height of 12.5 m. The brickwork of the uppermost level was reconstructed for use as a church bell tower, for the adjacent Anglo-Saxon church of St Mary in Castro of which a small portion can be seen in my photo. The Pharos is dated 1st century - early 2nd century AD and is one of a pair originally built on the headland flanking each side of the Roman port of Dubris (Dover). It now stands within the grounds of Dover Castle.

The amazing Roman pharos (lighthouse) at Dover, still standing after almost 2,000 years!

The tallest surviving Roman structure in Britain and one of only three surviving lighthouses from the former Roman Empire. 1st-2nd century AD.

My favorite anecdote from Frances Walsh's write up about the 1909 keeper & his son:

"Pigeons sometimes landed on the lighthouse, after losing their bearings during delivery missions or races. James managed to return them to their owners, if he could read their leg bands"

Job cuts on the way for Department of Corrections and Archives NZ, union says The PSA said the changes would lead to a net loss of 49 roles at Corrections including in health and safety and learning and development.

The loss of so many highly-skilled staff from Archives NZ and the National Library will inevitably have a detrimental impact for researchers.

Apparently with all the tram tickets sold, they built the current Dunedin town hall. 😱
