I told my kid not to use it even though they're trans because they aren't transsexual, although this was a problem I invited by self-slurring myself enough they got the idea from me. Whoops.

In the end it doesn't really matter if it's journalism or not? If you put info out into the world you have some duty to ethics to make it not harmful IMO.

Yes, my sole issue is that the metaphor is insulting! I can even agree with the general premise of the argument.

I don't think it's bad faith to say "being compared to pigs eating slop is inherently insulting," nor do I think it's bad faith to say there were softer metaphors easily available.

Why use that metaphor if that's not what he was saying?

You could get the same point across with "my favorite pizza place just started serving burgers and the menu is slowly being taking over by burgers."
