So if you’re in Arizona — or anywhere else watching this happen — look at NC as your warning sign.
The GOP’s voter suppression agenda has a blueprint. They’re perfecting it here, and they’re ready to roll it out wherever they can.
Stay alert. Stay engaged. Fight back.
And what’s most cynical?
These lawsuits often target the families of our troops and diplomats — the very people serving abroad to protect democracy.
Stripping them of their vote is a brazen attack on core American values.
Let’s not miss the bigger picture:
—North Carolina has been the GOP’s lab for perfecting voter suppression tactics
—Once tested, those tactics get deployed nationally — from Arizona to Wisconsin
If it worked here, it’s coming to you next.
The Arizona GOP and RNC even admitted their goal: overseas voters in Maricopa County are mostly Democrats. Their lawsuit is explicitly about shrinking the electorate to win — not protecting election integrity.
That framing echoes the NC GOP’s language.
This strategy isn’t about integrity.
It’s about power — targeting communities Republicans know they can’t win over with their policies.
They’ve been perfecting this approach in NC, where gerrymandering and voter suppression go hand in hand.
North Carolina was first to experiment with these attacks:
—Precision voter suppression aimed at voters who lean Democratic
—Lawsuits post-election to create chaos and distrust
—Weaponizing residency arguments to disenfranchise legitimate voters
Now, the GOP is exporting it to other states.
This exact playbook comes straight from NC.
Earlier this year, Republican NC Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin tried to disenfranchise overseas voters after losing his election to @allisonjriggs.bsky.social — even though many of those voters were military families and diplomats’ kids.
Republicans have sued to block Arizona’s law that allows some overseas U.S. citizens to vote — specifically adult children of Arizona voters living abroad.
Their argument?
• These voters are “non-residents”
• They skew Democratic
• Therefore: suppress them
Sound familiar?
If you want to understand how the GOP’s attacks on voting rights evolve and spread, look no further than North Carolina — their favorite testing ground. What we’re seeing now in Arizona is just the latest chapter in a strategy refined in NC for years. Let’s break it down 👇
12.07.2025 23:18 — 👍 10 🔁 5 💬 3 📌 0in 2026, we must re-elect @anitaearls.bsky.social a fearless champion for voting rights and fair maps. In 2028, we flip 2 NC Supreme Court seats and we can have a court that defends fair maps after the 2030 Census.
We have to play the long game. #gerrymanderedAF
