My personal opinion is that everyone should be alarmist about everything the conservative movement is saying and planning and attempting right now. Be extremely alarmist about fascism. Be very alarmed about White Christian Nationalism. It is an absolutely appropriate reaction.

This is the real point that most people who don't teach don't get. It's our job to choose things that are both manageable and challenging for students. It's literally what we're trained for.

If I were assigning a reading that my students were incapable of engaging productively with without a summary, there would be no point in assigning it if I didn't give them a summary.
