Absolutely! Without libraries, where would I be? They helped me grow, shaped my education and kept me informed ever since I first entered our small public library with my mum who would check out books for herself and little me to our shared delight.

Yeah, Hannes Lowagie's book on his experiences with AI-powered cataloguing at the Royal Library of Belgium is finally out and I have all day to dive into it. Having recently discussed AI in metadata workflows from a slightly more theoretical perspective, I hope for a practical and hands-on guide.

How we treated AI in 2023 vs 2025
I can so related to this. π I tend to whip Copilot, but then I treat Claude completely differently. Maybe the locally installed interface is so much more beautiful? π€ UI has always had a great influence on my choice of (and now treatment of?) apps.

Super interesting discussion. I esp appreciated this analogy to explain why some scaffolding is needed to support emergent data structures and workflows: "building a graph structure is a bit like building an archβyou need all the pieces in place for it to be self-supporting"

What will AI be doing to help librarians with cataloguing in 2024? describing images, dealing with backlogs of e.g theses, dissertations; creating metadata at source (publishers). What won't it be doing? Anything that requires nuance. #UKSGForum2024 Annette Dortmund OCLC

Good overlap between these two speakers when Annette Dortmund, OCLC discusses the role of AI in cataloguing by 2030: "We'll still need humans for a number of reasons - including to prevent the use of harmful terminology." #ethics #cataloguing #UKSGForum2024
