Being a high masking, lower support needs autistic person who has a full time job and is married with kids basically makes it so people think your challenges are a combination of poor planning, poor choices, and social incompetence rather than because you have a literal disability 🥴

I do my own thing, but I think their templates are solid. I also forget about them sometimes. Recently fixed a continuity error because I went by memory instead of looking up where MC was born. 😂

That's probably true in a lot of cases!

I use Scrivener (love it!) so I have a section for "Characters". Each MC has their own page there. I also sometimes write down their abilities in RPG terms, like a character sheet.

A lot of my stories end up being about "found family". I didn't do it deliberately, it was just what I gravitated to enough that it became a pattern.

I always write a basic bio for main characters. Family, where they're from, important experiences. Details can be added later, but it's at least a baseline.

The dx was previously split, and I don't see how going back helps anyone. Lots of conditions come with internal classes that affect treatment - like types of diabetes or degrees of visual impairment. I'd rather see better ways to identify what supports are needed than arbitrary hi/lo categories.

Was cleaning up my closet and found my research notes from Blackout Trail. I plotted out the characters' route mile by mile across the North Country and Appalachian Trails, noting interesting landmarks and challenges. Fun times! I actually love doing book research. My search history is so random. 😂

It is almost impossible to write a book a year while working as a family breadwinner and being a present parent. If this is your situation, you are not failing. The world wants you to think you are so you buy things. Just keep swimming.

Whenever I see somebody online explaining the ways they know a kid is using ChatGPT to write a paper, I am sincerely glad I'm not a child anymore. Em dashes? Oxford commas? Enumerated lists? Complex contrasting sentences? I am a hyperlexic autistic and began writing like that in fourth grade.

The only LLM I can get behind. 😂
