Part of an email reading β€œdevelopment of a First Gen Mentor Program to build on SIUE's growing first-generation student community and the demonstrated value of mentorship in student success. We were thrilled by the strong response and interest from faculty and staff eager to participate.
As we moved toward implementation, our office experienced some unexpected staff transitions over the summer, which have temporarily impacted our capacity to launch and sustain the program at this time. While we are unable to move forward with the mentorship component right now, we remain committed to supporting first-generation students and plan to revisit this initiative in the future as staffing allows.

regardless of what happens to the tariffs, they're doomed from the start because the average conservative holds all three of these positions at once:

β€” virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
β€” against increasing the minimum wage
β€” buys foreign imports because they're cheap

*8/28/2025 thread of noncooperation*
Sidebar!

I've been thinking a lot about Lisa Cook fighting to *stay* at the Fed vs. CDC leaders *leaving* the CDC.

Productive noncompliance looks different under different circumstances. "No, I won't get out of your way" vs. "No, I won't help you do harm."

Brief 🧡, as someone who has studied mass shootings for 13 years:

-gender does not cause them
-SSRIs, no
-mental illness, no
-internet/gaming, no

Above can be compounding factorsβ€”but motive is complex, often very. The most fundamental combo:

suicidality + rage + isolation + easy access to guns

behold the "HTML bomb"

It's a counterattack for AI companies that persistently scrape and rescrape your web site, even when you tell them not to

when a scraper grabs it, it becomes a 10-gig HTML page and πŸ’£ goes the scraper
