Well not to death - I treasure those little guys - but temporarily out of control.

I wish I studied auditory now! I've actually tried it over the years when I've run into auditory cells randomly, but could never get them to fire themselves to death. Ah, dreams unfulfilled.

I've always wondered, has anyone reported (or just observed) auditory neurons that fire well to the sound of their own spiking? If so, if an animal is allowed to hear the spiking through the speakers of a typical ephys setup, do the neurons "blow up", firing ever faster in a feed forward loop?

This is the ultimate clickbait for me, I will always watch your video if I know I'll hear the crackling of neurons ๐

The massive list of suspended UCLA grants came out today: 300 NSF and 500 NIH grants. I am miraculously not on the list, but this is devastating. Science will be lost, progress will be frozen, people will lose jobs, and careers in science and medicine are being destroyed. This is not ok.

I am sort of fascinated that the NIH includes an option that supports compensation of peer reviewers. Do any journals actually pay reviewers currently? I've been reviewing for ~30 years and have never heard of such a thing (and have been bitter about it).

And to be clear about the position: anyone using modern data analytics and/or modelling with NHP data would likely qualify.
Also, Queen's has a vibrant and collaborative academic community of neuroscience, ML/AI, robotics and related fields researchers.

The b-roll is awesome, I'm glad they shot that. I especially liked checking the integrity of the new bladder by lighting it up from the inside with a laparoscope (I think that's what they were doing).
