All the damn time. Kirkus is the biggest offender, but SLJ is the one I saw today.

SLJ wouldn't say this about an Easter book:

"the lack of any explanation of the seder and the narrow focus on the afikomen leaves one with no sense of the experience or importance of the holiday. Back matter explains the afikomen, but also neglects the rest of the holiday."

Today I got to explain to someone why you don't want to cross Nora Roberts.

I compared her to Dolly Parton and then paraphrased The Wire - If you come for the queen, you best not miss.

And... they've added the gingerbread latte to the app.

It's not featured in all their holiday menu stuff, but IT'S IN THE APP. IT IS BACK.

It's a Christmas miracle!

Y'all... Starbucks hasn't officially brought back the Gingerbread Latte, BUT, with their oatmilk gingerbread chai, they have the gingerbread syrup, so the OG latte can totally be ordered off-menu.

A cartoon post from Alt National Park & Forest Service from October 14th a few years ago. It's 4 panels. A bunch of trees are all green in the first one. One says "Okay, trees, let's get naked!" In the second panel, all the trees have turned various colors....red, yellow, orange, green. In the third panel, most of the trees are looking bare. In the 4th panel, they're all bare but the green one. A fir tree. One of the naked trees says "WTF, Douglas?"

It's the time of year for one of my favorite cartoons. Sometimes I catch myself looking at our trees going "WTF, Douglas?" ๐Ÿ˜‚

Things people should really know by now - if you see a tweet making an unbelievable claim and linking to the article where it comes from... read the article.

People I usually like and respect are fear-mongering over a social media lie (or possible tasteless joke)

This is such a great point, and itโ€™s why โ€œI buy banned booksโ€ is weaponized by the book burners themselves. They love to sidestep their systemic attack by saying โ€œyou can still buy the book on Amazonโ€ and hope we donโ€™t notice the trick

So many people have no concept of just how critical the library market is for children's books. It's part of why I never bothered to try to self-publish the two MG books I wrote and was unable to sell: kids don't buy their own books. You can sell inexpensive ebooks direct to adults, not to kids.

That deciding to buy banned books for your own personal shelves doesn't even come close to solving the harms done by book banning, and actually we'd rather you show up and speak out at your school board and library board meetings and also help elect better candidates - or run for office yourself.

But mostly, think of the dead.

The ones we know and the ones who weren't counted.

Think of the survivors and how they had to rebuild and carry on.

Remember that history is about people.

Remember the people.
