I like coffee, books, and yarn. Unless otherwise specified, library posts are about the field in general.

"the lack of any explanation of the seder and the narrow focus on the afikomen leaves one with no sense of the experience or importance of the holiday. Back matter explains the afikomen, but also neglects the rest of the holiday."
For a moment, I thought this was 1 really long dog!

I compared her to Dolly Parton and then paraphrased The Wire - If you come for the queen, you best not miss.

Ice and ends in wintry mix which forms another layer of ice. I learned to drive in SNOW, not an ice-snow-ice sandwich!
Ugh. Iโve been unable to get the Bluesky website to load on my computer for weeks now. It keeps saying Iโm not online (Iโm definitely online).
Very annoying!
And... they've added the gingerbread latte to the app.
It's not featured in all their holiday menu stuff, but IT'S IN THE APP. IT IS BACK.
It's a Christmas miracle!

A cartoon post from Alt National Park & Forest Service from October 14th a few years ago. It's 4 panels. A bunch of trees are all green in the first one. One says "Okay, trees, let's get naked!" In the second panel, all the trees have turned various colors....red, yellow, orange, green. In the third panel, most of the trees are looking bare. In the 4th panel, they're all bare but the green one. A fir tree. One of the naked trees says "WTF, Douglas?"
It's the time of year for one of my favorite cartoons. Sometimes I catch myself looking at our trees going "WTF, Douglas?" ๐

17.10.2023 11:44 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is such a great point, and itโs why โI buy banned booksโ is weaponized by the book burners themselves. They love to sidestep their systemic attack by saying โyou can still buy the book on Amazonโ and hope we donโt notice the trick
16.10.2023 13:35 โ ๐ 44 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1So many people have no concept of just how critical the library market is for children's books. It's part of why I never bothered to try to self-publish the two MG books I wrote and was unable to sell: kids don't buy their own books. You can sell inexpensive ebooks direct to adults, not to kids.
16.10.2023 13:54 โ ๐ 262 ๐ 111 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0That deciding to buy banned books for your own personal shelves doesn't even come close to solving the harms done by book banning, and actually we'd rather you show up and speak out at your school board and library board meetings and also help elect better candidates - or run for office yourself.

The ones we know and the ones who weren't counted.
Think of the survivors and how they had to rebuild and carry on.
Remember that history is about people.
Remember the people.

It's a day to think about the history we hear, and the history we don't, and why. (29/?)
