Unmarked Lodge No. 12 Camp Oven (circa 1950s), recently stripped to bare metal using a non-chemical process, hand-refinished without wheel grinding, and re-seasoned three times with non-animal products. It sits (stands) beautifully on its 3-peg legs and is as flat as these ovens were originally made. Fully restored by our shop.

The oven has its lid, prominently cast with the โ€˜12โ€™ stamp on top and the unique Lodge handle. The lid top features a turned-up lip, and the interior is bowled (as cast). It also retains a distinctive Lodge featureโ€”the handle, which hooks opposite on earsโ€”likely to help balance when held by hand.

Included in the photos is a shot of the first pass out of the oven (a little โ€˜behind-the-scenesโ€™), showing this No. 12 fully stripped with its initial coating. What a stunning transformation to its final appearance!

This camp oven cookware is ready for your next camping adventure, and like any quality cast iron, it improves over time. Each use deepens its color and enhances the seasoning. A little oil, butter, or spray helps prevent sticking and nourishes the seasoning, building a rich patina.

Experienced cast-iron users know the difference it makes. Maintaining and cleaning a cast iron is simpleโ€”just a quick wipe with a paper napkin for the final cleanup.

If youโ€™re new, expect a small learning curve that pays off in delicious results. Skeptical? You wonโ€™t be after that first bite!

Used but in very good condition, with no cracks or warping. The casting is very goodโ€”no rough seams or factory welds. Due to casting, it doesnโ€™t feel perfectly smooth, but minimal imperfections and pitting are normal.

Very little wear, in general. Marked on the bottom: 12 CO and D.

Approximate dimensions:
- 14โ€ ear-to-ear
- 7-1/2โ€ tall legs-to-lid handle
- 6 quart capacity

Cast iron is not waterproof or non-stick, but a well-seasoned pan beads water and wipes clean easily. Remember to wipe it after each use and periodically reseason with your preferred product.

Rare (MCM) wood hand carved figurine. Circa 1970. Made of two pieces (body & tongue). Wood species appears to be teak for the body, but the tongue species is unknown.

Mr. Cody is known for making intricately carved wooden figures, especially depictions of monks. His work emphasizes craftsmanship and character, with a philosophical side. This sculpture has inscribed on its base, โ€œMy Advice Is Freeโ€ on the front and is signed and dated by the artist on the back, โ€œJW Cody 1/22/70.โ€

This carving captures a monk-like essence wearing a robe, tied at the waist with a cinch belt, with hands joined together in a prayer-like pose & exaggeratedly strong features such as an elongated and sharp nose, a sharp tongue that appears to extend well into the neck. The head, carved without a skull, can be seen as having only half a face or maybe even wearing a mask similar to those worn by โ€˜plague doctorsโ€™ centuries ago. The toes are extremely curled upward, too.

Monks often symbolizes serenity, contemplation and wisdom. They are traditionally seen as keepers of knowledge, helping others through life challenges. The phrase "my advice is free" could stress humility and willingness to help others without expecting something back, reinforcing the idea that wisdom should be shared generouslyโ€ฆwith a unique sense of humor. After all, would one seek the guidance of such a sharp tongued peculiar character?

This is a unique creation from the mind of an artist with a philosophical & thematic side and touch of humor for โ€˜grotesqueโ€™ mid-century style art sure to be an excellent topic of conversation and contemplation. Although, who wouldnโ€™t want to have it as a white elephant gift!?

Antique Improved Coffee Mill No. 2870 coffee bean grinder. Circa 1890 -1910.

Constructed of warm rich wood, natural finish, and cast iron with steel alloy buhrs (internal mechanism that grind the beans). Wood box features dovetail joints.

Crank handle and drawer knob are wood and painted black.

Cast iron mill top enclosure and handle display beautiful detail! Top domed plate swings open where beans can then be poured inside. They were once painted, but are now bare metal, giving the mill a very nice rustic an all-natural look!

The overall condition is very good! It has undoubtedly been used and the cast iron and buhr have worn down from use and handling, but the mechanism still grinds fine over 100 years later. Neither the box wood or cast metal have cracks or splits. The wood handle knob does have two small cracks on the inside, but because itโ€™s painted, itโ€™s tight and secure. The paint and finish do show a little crazing, as is expected of most functional antiques. The original manufacturers label has worn off, but it does not take anything away from this fine mill!

Included in the photos is one that shows coffee beans that have been ground twice. Depending on your preference of potency, the mill does about enough small to coarse grinds for two regular cups of brew.

Dimensions (approximately):

โ€ข Drawer 5โ€L x 4โ€W x 1-1/4โ€D
โ€ข Mill box 6-3/4โ€L x 6โ€W x 4-1/2โ€T
โ€ข Mill (bottom to highest point) 9โ€T

Manually operated coffee mills are certainly the equivalent of gardening or mowing a lawn: either you love it or hate it! What is undeniable is that, if one gooses to use the mill, one will drink fresh coffee! Plus, thereโ€™s something to be said about the aroma and sound of the mill in action! Likewise, a mill displayed on a counter or table top sets the mood and adds to the ambiance of a room and moment!

When we moved from Texas to Washington back in the early 80โ€™s, I was 1 of 3 Spanish speakers. This was true middle-to-high school and even a couple of decades later. I find myself struggling to remember words often, but I do what I can to keep speaking Spanish. I can relate. :-)
