Yeah, I think this what makes it hard for Americans who haven’t experienced autocracy elsewhere to realizeβ€”life under authoritarianism can still look like pleasant summers, bbq on the weekend, after work happy hour with friendsβ€”until snap, a coworker or family member goes missing

The Plot to Effectively Ban Abortion Nationwide Is Unfolding Before Our Eyes Lawmakers and activists are working to shutter clinics and restrict access to abortion pills. The end result would be catastrophic.

NEW: The Senate bill "defunding" Planned Parenthood is just one front in the war to ban abortion without explicitly banning it.

The right is vying to cut off federal funds, shutter clinics, restrict abortion pills, and let protestors terrorize abortion seekersβ€”and put abortion entirely out of reach

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Millions Of Voters Risk Disenfranchisement Under Republican Proposal Republicans have dodged questions on what happens to voters who don’t have the right paperwork.

The House is set to vote today on the SAVE Act,Β a GOP bill to require proof-of-citizenship documents to register or re-register to vote. Millions of people don't have access to those documents. (Do you know where you birth certificate is? Has your name changed?)

Thirty lonely but beautiful actions you can take right now which probably won't magically catalyze a mass movement against Trump but that are still wildly important Why? Because others will see you do them, and it will make it easier for them to take their own (slightly less lonely but equally beautiful) action by your side

US-based conferences should probably prepare to offer e.g. presentation and comms devices for on-site use by international travelers who are motivated enough to attend but who can't safely bring their devices across the border.

I asked an immigration lawyer, and in spite of the charlatan handle ⬇️, his advice is correct.

Why? Non violent/non criminal/non U.S. people can be detained at border crossings if they approach to enter.

The rule rn: If you go thru "pre-clearance," and you're denied entry, U.S. govt won't grab you.

Two Republican senators told me tonight this vote shows they can execute the same strategy again β€” cut Democrats out of the negotiations on a gov’t funding bill, pass it thru the House, and expect Senate Dems to back down and not filibuster it.

β€œWe liked it over here,” one said.

The question is what additional pressure can be brought to bear over next 18 hrs to shake this free. As noted, no on cloture Sens CAN bring pressure to bear if they really want to; reps can too. Ordinary voters can apply more pressure. I see no reason to give in until the votes r cast.

19-20 months from now, Trump will have pushed the economy off a cliff and left the civil service a smouldering husk. If you're a Democratic elected and you think a government shutdown from a CR fight is gonna be the thing voters remember, you need your fucking head examined.

Screenshot of three tweets about the Democrats’ plan for the Continuing Resolution vote in the senate. The text reads as follows:

Okay, Schumer's speech was a head fake. This is the Senate D caucus trying to fool their own supporters. Sorry to say that but that's what's happening.

2/ The plan seems to be to vote for cloture and then Thune agrees as his part of the bargain to allow a vote on basically an amendment to the bill. Probably something like Murray's bill. So you give up the 60 vote threshold. Have a vote on each version and the GOP one wins. End of story.

3/ The point of this to temporarily confuse the issue so that Senate Ds can say they vote for their version while allowing the
GOP version to pass. The critical point is that it's handing the GOP the 60 vote threshold for nothing.

CALL YOUR SENATORS AND TELL THEM VOTING NO AND STOPPING THE GOP AND THIS BUDGET IS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE ACTION.

Senate Democratsβ€”

A vote AGAINST the Republican CR isn’t a vote to shut down the governmentβ€”they’re in charge and need your votes.

But a vote FOR the Republican CR is a vote to allow Elon Musk to continue shutting down the government and nullifying the role of Congress.

Will Dems Pick Up Their Sword? (Ed.Note: I go into a lot of detail below. The bottom line...

What Mike Johnson is calling a "clean CR", i.e., funding bill, is really an Elon licensing deal, free 6 months to keep up his wilding spree which has already gutted the VA, slashd social security, cancer cure research and more. Johnson needs Ds help to pass it. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/will-...
