Absolutely deadly behavior causing another crash on Spruce Street at 5th st early this morning. This is on the busiest bike lane in Philly with over 1,500 riders who use it daily.
We deserve so much better than paint and flexposts, we deserve real protection.

Loading zones on Spruce St in Philadelphia are great, but drivers often don't use them and endanger cyclists in the bike lane instead. We need concrete protected bike lanes now! @bikeaction.org @bcgp.bsky.social

Cyclist killed in West Philadelphia IDβd; was riding in unprotected bike lane
This is Philadelphia's second known bicycle death of 2025.
Another cyclist killed by a driver in an unprotected bike lane in Philadelphia. We need to do more, now, to protect vulnerable road users. We all deserve to get where we are going safely. www.inquirer.com/transportati...

So nice to see the city pushing for bike and pedestrian safety. It feels like Philly's got momentum for real change. Hopefully we can win some hearts and minds and save some lives along the way, even before better infrastructure!

Child cycling and pedestrians walking though green park
Bicycle-friendly cities are safer for all road users, even drivers.
This is what new research in the US suggests. The study by N. Ferenchak and Wesley E. Marshall found that bicycling activity is significantly associated with better safety for all road users.

A blue SUV has run over a flexpost & maybe backed up into it causing it to bend & stuck into the back hitch in two places, looking like a bendy straw
In case you ever wondered how flexible a flexpost isβ¦ π
These bendy plastic straws are great for cheap, quick build projects, but itβs important for cities to replace them with infrastructure that actually forces drivers to operate our vehicles safely (AKA concrete).

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says β Streetsblog USA
Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikesΒ and people in cars and on foot, a new studyΒ of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.
Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.
ALL ROAD USERS.
And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.
For sharrows, itβs actually safer to NOT have them.

Separated bike-lane in downtown Vancouver filled with people on bikes.
Itβs REALLY important that #Vancouverβs Downtown Business Association, who were originally against downtown bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of the evidence that they are better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.
Bike-lanes mean business.

Thank you! I hope this connects well with the Market St. bike lane that is on the north side of Market St. from 23rd St. all the way to City Hall. Apparently cyclists will have to cross 2 lanes of traffic on 23rd and 4 lanes of traffic on Market St. when the bike lane switches sides at 23rd St.
