A rainbow striped handmade scarf made with a double seed stitch border and a cable in the middle.
A person wearing a rainbow striped handmade scarf they just finished making.
I donβt tend to enjoy making scarves much, but hereβs one I did out of spite that ended up being a really lovely gift for a friend. One of the first things I designed entirely myself, itβs fairly simple but the striped yarn kept my brain just interested enough to finish.

A close up photo of a scrappy quilt made of small 60 degree triangles. Some of the seams are slightly off, but the central one pictured features six triangles coming together to perfect points in the center. Fabrics pictured are all in shades of red, and feature gingham, bunnies, rings of white dots, red dandelions, large poppies, and black and red buffalo check.
Making a scrap quilt and playing with triangles for the first time. The rest of my seams so far are pretty rough but LOOK AT THIS PERFECT CONVERGENCE POINT AAAAAAAHHH

A hand drawn quilt block pattern in pencil with notes in the left hand margin. The block depicts a citrus slice composed of eight wedges, plus narrow strips for pith and the peel.
A quilt block depicting a slice of lemon on a light blue background. The lemon is oblong and the eight wedges are smushed together in the middle due to the blockβs mediocre construction.
A quilt block depicting a slice of lime on a periwinkle background. The block is imperfect with some mismatched seams, but it shows a vast improvement over the lemon.
Spent the weekend designing, patterning, and stumbling through practicing my own citrus quilt block from scratch. First attempt was pretty slapdash but I took my time with the second one and Iβd say thatβs a recognizable lime. Only 98 more to go and Iβll have myself a quilt.

A person spreading a handmade quilt over a queen size bed. The quilt has a horizontal pixelated wave pattern which transitions from pinks to blues to light and dark grays.
The back of the quilt spread out over the bed. The back is a disappearing nine patch pattern with pink and light blue floral large squares, beige floral horizontal rectangles, abstract lines suggesting faces in the vertical rectangles, and small dark green squares with red, white, and yellow flowers.
The same quilt as before with the back side facing up. One corner has been flipped to show both faces at once.
Finally finished my second quilt! Itβs tough to get a nice picture of something this size, but Iβm super proud of how it came out. Top is my own wave design, back is a disappearing nine patch in duck cloth at my belovedβs insistence. Vast skill improvement already!

One half of a handmade quilt held vertically. The quilt is a progress pride flag, and the portion pictured features the red, orange, and yellow stripes as well as half of the black, brown, light blue, pink, and white diagonal portions of the flag. Distinguishable prints in the quilt include large and small florals, orange fruits, strawberries, dandelions, gingham, bunnies, pine cones, and geometric motifs.
Locked in for 9 hours today and got half of my first quilt top assembled. Absolutely humbled by math throughout this process but Iβm not giving up.

Iβll be interested to see the difference over time. About 70% of the fabric is an expensive fat quarter set, and the other 30% is random craft store bolt fabric and remnants to account for my bad calculations. Luckily Iβm doing all reinforced seams so it will be indestructible either way.

A person in a white shirt with blue flowers wearing a dusty pink cowl knit from handspun yarn. Subtle bands of blue and orange appear naturally in the yarn. The cowl is slouchy, with occasional purl stripes throughout. It comes to a sharp point in front, with a tassel of the same yarn attached to the tip.
The same person and cowl, with slightly more of their face showing.
Remember that yarn my sister spun for me? Looks like I figured out what to do with it. No pattern, just worked off a photo and experimented. Iβm obsessed with the subtle color bands in the yarn- it worked up more beautifully than I could have imagined.

Sorry I need to keep yelling. The amount of etymological research alone that had to go into this?? And the attention to detail in the time period, right down to dress (a nitpick for me)?? Unbelievable. I cannot fathom how one would even start preparing to write this book, yet here it is.

Book cover for Modern Poetry of Pakistan. An abstract mosaic features small brown tiles that gradually grow lighter in one area to give the illusion of a rough sphere, or a light shining down a hole from far above.
πππ Book 25 of the year is Modern Poetry of Pakistan, an anthology of translated works from several of Pakistanβs languages. While I didnβt connect with the style as much as I do with my old favorites, I did feel a kinship with the authors as America faces struggles.

Book cover for Go to Sleep (I Miss You) by Lucy Knisley. Two side by side illustrations of a mother and baby next to a crib. In the first, the frazzled mother holds a crying baby. A spiky speech bubble containing a picture of a lightning storm erupts from the babyβs mouth. In the second, the baby is asleep in the crib while his wistful mother looks on, a thought balloon containing a heart floating above them both.

ππ Book 21 of the year is a tidy little LitFic novel called The Hearing Test, in which a sound designer for short films suddenly begins to go deaf. Extremely introspective, itβs as much poetry on the page as it is plot driven, which I always love.
