Clean renewables – the cheapest way to create electricity Too often, the default approach is to maximize immediate wealth from non-renewable resources and defer the long-term consequences. That choice effectively transfers environmental, economic, and social costs to future generations. The question is not whether better pathways exist. They do. The question is whether governments are prepared to act on them with the same urgency shown in protecting established industries.

BC Hydro must prioritize low-impact renewables If B.C. is serious about building a resilient and forward-looking energy system, its public utility must invest more decisively in the innovations already being studied here at home. The University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus has the Laboratory for Solar Energy and Fuels. It is working to develop materials and devices that can convert abundant solar energy into clean electricity or storable fuels. BC Hydro is not listed as one of its research partners.

Just to kind of underline it - to much of the world, America the political entity is increasingly an unreliable ally at best and a direct threat at worst. It is not a great time for those Americans who don't want to be viewed that way to adopt the language of those who do

At the risk of moving into the discourse a 2nd time today, the fact that a lot of Americans in the replies see this as a bit of fun trash talk between rivals kind of illustrates the extent to which maybe a lot of Americans aren't reading the room in how they are viewed internationally at this point

Iron Law of Oligarchy An IN-SIGHTS reader reminded me of the work of Robert Michels, a sociologist best known for creating the Iron Law of Oligarchy: All complex organizations—regardless of how democratic they start—inevitably develop into oligarchies, where power is concentrated in the hands of a few elite leaders. It asserts that bureaucratic, technical, and psychological factors force power to centralize, making true democratic control unsustainable.

I am writing to advise that Minister Nicolaides, his staff, and the Education and Childcare Department will not be accepting questions, interview requests, or requests for comment from CityNews Calgary or any affiliated outlets or reporters, nor will they be sent invitations to embargoed technical briefings until a formal apology is issued to Minister Nicolaides for the politicized reporting of his hike of Mount Kilimanjaro, undertaken in memory of his late sister. As stated in my earlier response to CityNews, politicizing a deeply personal act of remembrance was profoundly disrespectful. Despite the purpose of the trip being clearly explained, your reporter showed a clear disregard for context, sensitivity, and professional responsibility in pursuing this line of questioning. The attempt to manufacture a narrative about provincial flags and separatism is not only baseless but also demonstrates a reckless disregard for the truth. If there were a genuine interest in the Minister's stance on the unity of Canada, a direct question would have been the appropriate and professional course of action. Your reporter was offered that opportunity but instead chose to prioritize sensationalism over facts. That was a deliberate editorial choice. This type of reporting is beneath the standards Albertans expect. If CityNews wishes to restore communication with the Ministry of Education and Childcare, the following conditions must be met:

1) The story is removed from publication. 2) A formal apology is issued by both the reporter and the editor of CityNews Calgary.

Until this conduct is fully acknowledged and addressed, CityNews has demonstrated that it cannot be trusted to engage with this office in a manner that is ethical, responsible, or respectful. Sincerely, Garrett Koehler Senior Press Secretary Ministry of Education and Childcare

I keep coming back to @sarahkendzior.bsky.social writing "It's a transnational crime syndicate masquerading as a government" in "They Knew", and realizing that even if it applies more to some, it applies some to all. We need a reckoning; we've been led by criminals for basically my whole life.

My books were all bestsellers. People read them. Officials didn't ACT because they were protecting a criminal syndicate of pedophiles.

I know it's more comforting to believe that "no one knew" but most people knew: the general public and the perpetrators and the officials protecting the latter.
