Proud Canadian πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ. Cloverdale, BC resident since 2001. Fighting for a more equitable and compassionate society. The climate crisis is real. End fossil fuel consumption now if we expect to leave a livable planet to future generations.

Housing affordability and homelessness have reached crisis levels in Canada. It doesn't have to be this way. Countries around world have solved this problem and are housing their citizens affordably and with dignity. Canada West Forum is hosting a webinar on Monday, Feb 23 to discuss solutions.

This is a lot like the climate crisis. Do nothing about the crisis that is unfolding right in front of you and then spend $billions cleaning up the mess. If the toxic drug crisis was managed properly, and it can be, there would be no need for Naloxone. We don't have to be the stupid province. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

If this government truly wants to save lives, it must support domestic pharmaceutical production and expand regulated alternatives to replace the toxic illicit drugs that are killing British Columbians every day.

Meanwhile, the young couple and their children behind me in the line have to pay full fare πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ. This is upside down.

Expect a fair amount of blowback from the block of seniors who feel ENTITLED to endless discounts and benefits.

This makes so much sense. Let me know if I can help. I believe all senior discounts should be means tested. Reaching a certain age shouldn't be the metric used to qualify for a benefit. I drive up to the BC ferry terminal midweek and I ride free.

I completely agree with your analysis on the old age security. A lot of households receive the benefit that don't need it - mine included. Means testing is required.

BC Budget 2026: A slow retreat from public services that leaves people to fend for themselves With Budget 2026, the BC government has prioritized deficit and debt reduction at the expense of public investment that could have made life more affordable for BC families and built a more equitable future for the next generation.

The BC Budget is a slow retreat from public services that leaves people to fend for themselves.

Norway’s national wealth fund now C$3Β trillion Both the governing NDP and the Conservative opposition maintain that natural resources primarily belong to the companies extracting them today. Taxes are kept low, subsidies are plentiful, and the idea that future generations deserve a share of today’s resource wealth is effectively dismissed.

I'm a card-carrying baby boomer and I am ashamed at my generations off loading on younger generations. We are doing the same thing on climate, wealth inequality and affordable housing. It's completely unfair. One solution is a wealth tax which is long overdue.

No one deserves to starve.
No one deserves to be homeless.
No one deserves to be abandoned or mistreated.
Recovery taught me something powerful: People can’t heal while they’re hungry, homeless, and hurting.
Food. Housing. Healthcare.
These aren’t luxuries, they are human rights!

Economist Alex Hemingway says concentration of wealth in Canada has been growing steadily. The average family of the top 0.01% owned 4,000 times more wealth than the average of the bottom 50%.

There *is* wealth in BC and Canada. Arguments that claim otherwise distract from the fact that we have a MASSIVE concentration of wealth in this country (1/4) 🧡

What the Epstein files tell us about extreme wealth

The Epstein files aren’t just about one wealthy predator.

They reveal how extreme wealth creates a system where the ultra-rich protect each other, avoid consequences, and exploit power, while everyone else pays the price. patrioticmillionaires.org/perspectives...

Canada, stop with the self-interested decision making and do what is right. As @whosestreets.bsky.social says, it is time for Canada to align with other middle powers to push back on the US siege of Cuba. We have to stop living-the-lie.

12.02.2026 19:13 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

One component you are missing in your article is the US motive for the siege on Cuba. This is, and always has been, business driven. American corporations want access to the Cuban economy and they are using the US military to achieve it. This is a well worn playbook - Shock Doctrine.

Great article @whosestreets.bsky.social . Unfortunately, Canada appears to be a US lap dog when it comes to meddling in the Caribbean and Central American nations. @mark-carney.bluesky.social fully supported the US invasion of Venezuela.

Our current tax code guarantees that the chasm between the uber rich and every one else will just keep growing (and keep growing faster).

When wealth and power get to top heavy, societies tend to collapse.

Effective taxes on extreme wealth are how we defend our economy and democracy.

Housing and homelessness online forum – FebruaryΒ 23 Affordable housing is a major problem, with many Canadians struggling with high costs and the inadequate supply of suitable homes. These struggles can impact health, happiness, and financial stability, and may lead to homelessness and a cycle of housing insecurity. Can this situation in Canada be changed? Can we learn from other regions? The answer to both questions is a resounding YES!

Poverty doesn’t just take.
It compounds.
No doctor today.
A hospital bill tomorrow.
Teeth rot. Backs break. Cancer spreads.
The cost is always delayed, never forgiven.
Poverty charges interest.
