It is simply to refuse to allow yourself to be sucked into a cycle of hatred. I have no idea what’s in Erika Kirk’s heart, and perhaps it is propaganda of some kind. But I had to put in a word for the tradition she is purporting to represent.

That said, this tradition has also been used as a weapon to prevent the oppressed from seeking justice, which is indeed wicked. To forgive your enemies is not to refrain from naming evil as evil.

I have nothing good to say about Charlie Kirk, but there is an ideal in Christianity of loving your enemies and forgiving those who do you harm. Viz. Christ on the cross. This practice is a legitimate spiritual tradition with an honourable history. Consider Oscar Romero’s last words:

Kathleen worked so hard on this adventure and it’s so good—it’s SO good. It’s hilarious and creative (and playtesters had a blast).

On the page it says she “developed the story”, but I think that undersells that she wrote every dang word. It rules.
