Dan, thanks for showing this.
It prompted me to look up the same week for last year. Much better.

02.10.2025 16:45 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Rob, what is the takeaway from these new rules? Is it that some projects that were uneconomic in the past will now pencil out?

Note: the Western US also has 3,600 MW of coal retiring in 2025.
24.09.2025 16:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1This may be true for the US, but the Western US continues to lower its fossil fuel usage at a steady pace.
The estimate for 2025 is based on the data reported thru July.

About 50-60 GWh of battery storage was added in the US over the last 18 months.
The total is now about 100 GWh. It would be nice to see this grow to 500 GWh by 2030.
LADWP - always kicking the can down the road.
Next up - Scattergood Generating Station.
Let's see more of this...

I somehow missed this thread a few weeks ago.
Great concept - "Enhanced Geothermal Data Center Cluster".
Looking forward to 10 GW of development in Utah by 2035!
Next up - expansion to other Western States - especially California.
Also @jackconness.bsky.social - good follow.

Note: Swedish exports of electricity were equal to about 20% of its total generation over the last 12 months.
Up substantially vs prior 12 months.
Love this example of learning curve - products getting better AND cheaper.

The US needs to get to 100 GW of utility-scale per year. At least.
Note: Here are recent yearly solar additions.
2022: ~ 11 GW
2023: ~ 19 GW
2024: ~ 31 GW

Good morning with good news: Poland's RE passed coal for the first time in June, generating 44.1% of Polandโs electricity, with coal falling to 43.7%
Coal fell to 46.2% in Q2 2025 from 56.4% in Q2 2024.
Wind & solar surged to ~39% in 6/2025 from 28% in 6/2024!

Crazy - Wales already produces 2x the electricity that it consumes.
The rest heads over into England.
Maybe a great spot for future datacenters.
1) The records keep falling on the California grid @californiaiso.bsky.social .
New renewables peak record - 29,040 MW at 3:10 PM on Thursday.
Notes:
- Demand at 3:10 pm was only 25,992 MW.
- Two years ago, the record was only 23,457 MW

๐๐ก #Coal used to be the cheapest form of #electricity generation in the U.S., but now it is cheaper to build new #renewables capacity than to keep existing coal plants running.

BNEF takes the under on US data center load growth (43.5GW of new capacity by 2035) due to "real-world constraints like interconnection delays and build timelines" - underscoring market opportunity for faster connection via flexibility. ๐๐ก
