James you forgot the statutory rape. THE READER doesn't just want you to sympathize with a nazi concentration camp guard, it wants you to sympathize with a *rapist* nazi concentration camp guard.

They were chosen because they are not up for reelection so they can safely piss off voters.

The only answer is you have to hold the entire caucus accountable for the surrender. Every Dem who isn't calling for new leadership ought to be primaried. That, or accept continued failure.

Assume all the yes and no votes from Dem senators are strategic and not sincere votes. The party caucus made a decision. No way to know how many were in favor. Then the caucus decided who would vote yes and no based on what would protect each of them politically the most. That’s how this works.

Warner is up for reelection. He was widely seen driving towards surrender behind the scenes, but he's voting no in public because it's unpopular. The real question is whether he supports a senate leadership change. If not, someone who supports senate leadership change should primary him.

Ezra Levin on Bluesky: β€œImportant to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.”

This isn’t just about the eight Senate Democrats who surrendered. πŸ‘‡

Ask people what changes were most significant during the 1960s and you usually hear about the counterculture and the sexual revolution. In reality the major change for many families was getting an indoor toilet.

I am not going to let Schumer and 8 center-right Democrats bring me down. We won on Tuesday. We're gonna keep winning. Just keep telling the stories of what the Trump administration is doing and how it's making lives so much harder, about the corruption, the incompetence, the violence.

Expect the fascist repression to get a lot worse now.

Recall that the abductions to El Salvador began hours after Democrats surrendered the last time.

Panorama made a stupid editing mistake. But compare this to the deliberate and systemic attempt, sustained across years, to ensure that BBC output aligns ever more closely to the demands of economic power. Against your straw of bias, I raise you a haystack.

Once every 20 years or so, the director-general of the BBC is forced to resign for being insufficiently rightwing. Alastair Milne in 1987. Greg Dyke in 2004. Tim Davie in 2025. The great irony is that the BBC was in all cases profoundly biased towards established power. But just not biased enough …

Any Democrat who votes for a clean CR should be primaried to hell, but any Democrat who votes for this FSA giveaway should be (never-before seen, extremely graphic footage of the 1958 Iraqi coup)

James Watson, dead at 97, was a scientific legend and a pariah among his peers James Watson, the co-discoverer of the structure of DNA who died Thursday at 97, was a scientific legend and a pariah among his peers.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

The provisional government was essentially unrecognised by most Russians at that point. The constituent assembly was just a referendum result. But the central council of Soviets for the entire former Russian empire was meeting for the first time - and it had the democratic legitimacy.

So full disclosure: I was in a bad spot last week, and I came to ChatGPT, *knowing* that it might do this shit, and thus already having some mental safeguard. It was useful, because it affirmed what the rational side of me had already been telling me.

This, on the other hand, is chilling and evil.

Elon Musk's $1tn pay deal approved by Tesla shareholders The richest man in the world will get hundreds of millions of new shares if he hits his targets.

What's deeply funny about this:

It's mostly tied to 10 year targets around robo taxis and Tesla sales figures he has zero chance of meeting.

So it's just pure delusion on all sides. 12 year old brains doing 12 year old 'cool' things all round.
