Residents in Lapel, Indiana, are experiencing brown water coming out of their taps and are worried that the water is not safe to drink.
Sometimes the tap water runs the color of sweet tea, sometimes the color of urine and on good days, the water flows crystal-clear. Residents have no idea what they will see each day when they turn on their taps nor do they know what causes the changing water color.

Indiana loses $130 million as EPA cancels low-income solar program
Advocate: 'Solar for all was going to benefit low-income grandmas living on very little income. That's whose interests we would live to see served.'
For two years Indiana groups have been preparing to use $130M in federal money to assist low-income households save money on utility bills under the Solar for All program. EPA Admin Zeldin announced plans to take that money away.

Indiana opened the door for data centers, but environmental and consumer advocates say there's a huge risk to health and environment.
The large demand for power, advocates say, will continue Indiana's reliance on burning fossil fuels for energy and exacerbate the growing effects of climate change. The process also has the potential to negatively affect the state's water availability and quality.

A network of advocates is doing everything they can to mitigate the dangers and unravel mysteries about monarch movements and behavior.
This grove is usually a favorite: More than 16,000 butterflies had adorned the eucalyptus trees there in 2023.
In 2024 volunteers counted fewer than 200.
