mariner’s ship is lost in a contested region of space (why boims has to show up), rutherford’s ship is called in to survey (we need a fancy ship) and tendi is coincidentally on a nearby planet thats nearing fed-applications and has to take care of their raging pandemic.

mariner is a captain deep space yadda yadda, im thinking married to a hot betazoid or something. her ship always held up under extreme circumstances and this is the first report of her being MIA that causes real concern for XYZ alien politic reasons
