My bro got married yesterday. In the biggest council estate move, my Nan took everything that wasn't nailed down. She left with 3 massive bags of sweets (she's a type 1 diabetic), 2 bottles of shots, a pair of flip flops, a branded foam glow stick, 3 tubes of bubbles & the fucking bridesmaid flowers

A scene from panto, with a female actor dressed as a male lumberjack in wolf clothing. Text says: how much does panto cost to make?
Β£62,582.67
I know what youβre thinking: βWeβve seen the show. Donβt you all just get up there and faff about? Why do you pay the guy who plays Pattie Breadcake? Does he even learn his lines?β
Well, no. And no.
Despite selling 96% of
our tickets in 2023, Red Riding Hood brought in Β£38,286.91 at the box office, resulting in a loss of Β£24,295.76.
As a mid-scale theatre company, such losses impact our budget and put pressure on our ability to produce shows by upping our fundraising target every year.
We donβt want to increase ticket prices unless absolutely necessary. As we almost sell out every year, we canβt really sell more tickets either to make up the difference.
So, why do we keep going?
Because of YOU LOVELY LOT!
Unlike some theatres, our panto doesn't subsidise the rest of our programme. In fact, it always makes a loss π΅βπ« Find out more in our latest blog post from senior producer,

Should we stay, or should we go? - Middle Child
Audience development manager, Jamie Potter, grapples with the future of theatre companies that use Twitter/X.
The bird app stinks and lots of people are joining BlueSky. We're not sure where that leaves us as a Hull theatre company looking for national connections, so we shared some thoughts on our website. www.middlechildtheatre.co.uk/2024/11/15/s...
