I am pretty sure I am doing this author newsletter thing wrong. I write to my readers like they are old friends and they care to hear about the reality that I face as an author. I don’t get supper detailed, still, I do so to keep it from sounding like a constant sales pitch.

As we remember that 80 years ago this week we did the unthinkable, we need to heed the warnings of our past. The voices of almost a deceased generation are screaming at us to never forget. 2/3

The phrase “Never forget” is too often forgotten. The stories of the past are there to guide us our futures. Already in our world we have let the innocent starve, locked up the stranger, and ignored our principles. It happened all before and it will happen again unless we break that cycle. 2/4

It's August 9,1945 and word comes to you that the second atomic bomb just fell on Nagasaki. Across the Ariake Sea used to be your home. The place of your birth and your childhood. The place of your father's work. You have no idea if your friends are alive, your neighbors, or the people of your church. And while you struggle to make sense of this mad world, just down the road from your new home is the internment camp. Your father tried to work there, but was fired. Your mother helped pregnant women and was picked up plain-clothes men.

Working on a true story that mirrors current events isn’t for the faint of heart. I finished one section today that made me tear up and I know it’s only the beginning.
