Ok as a GM you lost me here... what do you mean?

I feel like there should be a chance of "losing the battle dispite your best efforts" it a rare player that will willingly lose, heck I'm playing in a 7th sea game and noticed I have never willingly failed, ever, always fought against failure.

Modern toolkit style is harder for my brain, and yeah… it makes me question if I’m any good or just leaning on a crutch. Also, I design for 4–8 hour convention slots, so pacing matters. GMs, what format actually helps you run a game?
