Children are already at risk of deportation if they say anything in Immigration Court that varies even the tiniest bit from their record. Dates, details of home/school/community experience, etc. And at least that is happening in a court room where attorneys and Child Advocates are present. 8/

This new rule also requires detention facilities to turn over case files to ICE, along with the interviews of children. This puts children's legal cases in danger in so many ways that will be exploited by ICE to deport children and their family members. 7/

Allowing ICE, the agency which provides the attorneys that argue in Immigration Court for children's deportation, to interview children alone in detention facilities is obscene. Imagine the pressure that can be applied by an ICE agent inside the building where you sleep, eat, etc. 6/

There was *just* big leak about how DHS's newest tactic is to intercept children entitled to protection at the border to pressure them to accept a return to their home country instead of following the law and allowing them to enter custody in the US and be sponsored from detention by family. 5/

There are ZERO circumstances under which immigrant children in detention should be interviewed by an ICE agent without a lawyer or Child Advocate in the room. Lawyers & CAs *already* flag law enforcement when info about trafficking comes up in our work. It's grounds for a potential visa! 4/

Almost every change the Trump administration has made to the regulations regarding children's detention and the sponsorship process has been used to deport children and their family members. And every time, the WH says, "it's for their protection!" While proceeding to use the new rules to harm. 3/

I think that article gives far too much credence to the administration's statement that these interviews are meant to protect children from criminal activities as opposed to identifying family members for deportation or compromising children's immigration/asylum cases through unmonitored interviews.
