There used to be an Americana festival here in the Netherlands, which took its name from ‘Blue Highways,’ but I have never read the book (odd for me, considering I live pretty much anything road trip-related). Worthwhile read? (And obvs picking up a copy of ‘Greyhound’ soon.)

I definitely think @johnmulvey.bsky.social has been able to take MOJO places I would not have seen years ago, introducing many new people to 'out-there' sounds. Other publications focus more on those sounds, obviously, but they too struggle.

Two concerts in Birmingham alone tonight: Black Sabbath's final show, and ELO's farewell tour in Jeff Lynne's hometown. Two far-from-niche artists, yet they also would not be able to guarantee as many copies sold as those artists you're thinking of. Summer dresses all around (even if not for me!).

Without those articles – and let's not underestimate the amount of people who *do* like those artists – coverage of 'our' music would be relegated to the digital realm. I can definitely live with the trade-off and pay close attention to what certain writers contribute.
