Restaurant Review: Mugaritz A night of nonsense that goes from licking belly buttons to playing baa-ing noises whilst eating lamb that ends with a dry whimper

@caseynewton.bsky.social I really enjoyed this week’s podcast. I wondered what you think as a food lover about my experience that Medium editors titled β€œis this the worst Michelin starred restaurant in the world?”

Brilliant that people power has made sure the proposed changes have been scrapped! It does make me wish we had the same in Northern Ireland. Ludicrous that it’s another example of your UK post code being a difference in how you’ll be treated if you need an ADHD diagnosis.

πŸ˜‚ ADHD cowboy sounds like a great movie. A busted big toe means I haven’t ran since I started meds and hoping to get back to it in a week or two, so haven’t experienced that yet.

Titration is such a weird experience trying to figure out what a right dose for you is when you’re not sure what that feels like!

scaisnotsochillandcool We delve into the real reason why many GPs won't prescribe your ADHD medication (spoiler alert: it's about Dollar, dollar bills, y'all)

Why won't GPs enter into Shared Care Agreements for those going through private diagnosis for ADHD?

There’s reasons, but spoiler alert, it feels more about πŸ’°

Meanwhile, untreated ADHD costs society billions. Make it make sense πŸ™ƒ

Losing my religion Exploring the relationship between autism and aphantasia helped me understand why Catholic rituals felt distant and faith was never a good fit for me.

Never a great idea to talk about religion in Northern Ireland… but here’s my take on religion and autism from a personal lens.

My favourite dishes of 2024. First, a crab taco from Enrico Bartolini at Mudec, Milan; a dish of scallop, sea urchin and caviar at Mercado do BolhΓ£o, Porto; Wicklow venison at Ox Restaurant, Belfast and finally oysters in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

so far this year and I've made Β£150 in subscriptions so I'm down over a grand. I didn't set it up to monetise and don't really have plans to either. The day I do begin to monetise it, however, is the day I will start paying people.

On this point, to be 100% transparent, I set up the site because I wanted a place where people could write their own stories to get a balance of experience, not just my own (aka a middle aged white straight male). It's what I craved when I got a diagnosis. Setting the site up has cost me Β£1300

Not my intention to come across as comparing the size of our autism!

So much of that resonates! I had people say same about me being a 'social butterfly'. One of my friends also said a phrase you used to the letter in your article β€œyou’re not just autistic, you’re autistic as fuck”, when I told him I'd got a diagnosis and he wondered how I'd only realised at 47. πŸ˜‚

Also if you're ever interested in writing about your own experience on themoment.blog, let me know! Trying to make it a place where many people can write about their own journey (mostly from not finding a site that had the detail/focus on concepts that I craved when I got a diagnosis this year).

That was hardest thing for me even with having a structure around work etc. there doesn’t seem to be much content out there talking about the positive impact, so I struggled to understand what to expect!

I wasn’t sure outside of side effects whether it was working for me. I really struggled to understand how it was helping. Last week I forgot to take meds with me on a two-day trip to London. That’s when I realised the difference it was making.

My wild Hunter S. Thompson ride through ADHD meds Plunging headfirst into the chaos. A gonzo-fuelled dive into my first 14 days of ADHD med mayhem including headaches and dry-mouthed delirium

If it helps, I had the same thing, but after about a week it settled down. I moved to 40mg and then had a shorter period of similar side effects. But 7 weeks in now, most of them are gone. This is a bit over dramatic to make a point but I wrote about it here:

Listening to @kevinroose.com and @caseynewton.bsky.social’s latest episode on 100 most iconic technologies made me think about which tech was the most pivotal for younger me. AOL IM was definitely it. I have nostalgia for the dial up noise, the chats and the β€œyou’ve got mail” message. What’s yours?

Starting ADHD treatment feels like stepping into a Hunter S. Thompson story - chaos, clarity, and a touch of the surreal. From pounding headaches to the weird saga of sleep (or lack thereof), it’s been a ride. 🎒

Restaurant Review: Mugaritz A night of nonsense that goes from licking belly buttons to playing baa-ing noises whilst eating lamb that ends with a dry whimper

I started my Twitter journey 15 years ago with a post about food, so I thought I’d do the same here.
Here’s my #restaurantreview of Mugaritz. A restaurant that once was great but now has descended into a belly button licking farce.
