If you're newly coming into your Disabled identity, it's worth learning some history of Disabled people's activism. Just get some context.

And even if you're not newly coming into your Disabled identity, it's still worth it.

not to repeat the obvious but: if they are doing this to one of the most famous Western activists alive, imagine what they are doing to the people whose names we will never know

We’ve met with Greta Thunberg and others in the flotilla. They describe hours-long scenes of torture and sexual harassment in Israeli captivity. Experts conclude that they have been subjected to serious crimes – Sweden’s foreign minister believes they have themselves to blame.

HMCI says some complaints parents make about provision are "heartbreaking".Sometimes these parents feel that they have battling the system for their child's entire lives, he says. (It's good to hear this sympathetic view; too often parent perspective is pitted vs that of schools).

There's a generation of nonspeaking autistic young people, including my daughter, who are going to shake things up now they have access to robust AAC. But too many of their peers have nothing, because it's assumed that lack of speech is a social deficit, not a motor planning difficulty.

As a parent to a nonspeaking teenager, it's really good to see this article busting some myths and promoting AAC. I feel the link with CAS / apraxia needs more research. Diagnostic overshadowing is a huge issue. My daughter typed 'I know what I want to say but can't make the words come out'.

If you’re a parent of a child with a disability, you’re worried about how your family will be impacted by SpecEd Department of Education layoffs and you want to talk to a journalist about it, please DM, email (sluterman at 19thnews dot org) or Signal (slooterman.18).

National Trust members, remember to vote to keep out Restore Trust. The quick vote may not be your favourite thing, but it's the best way to stop them and not split the vote.

There are four house martins feeding above my head. They’re six inches long and are about to travel 6,000 miles. That’s about 63 million times their body length. The lunatics.

Catherine also talks about the traumatising impact of the inpatient environments and procedures. (My note: so many people go in to get worse, not better, in too many cases).

So, what do we do?

Ruth Moyse talks about her past research on autistic children and schools. Every child who wasn't able to attend school said they wished they could attend. But they can't do it. It's impossible for them.

It's not school 'refusal'. They can't access the school.

The reason the Right are so invested in the myth that the arts have no value isn’t because the arts don’t generate wealth (they do); it’s that studying the arts teaches people to imagine better ways of judging the value of an idea than by counting how much money it makes…

There seems to have been a shift over the last 5-10 years to much more external control over behaviour in secondary, based on 'zero tolerance' type approaches pushed by high profile educators. So we have a split between a self-regulation/agency focus in primary and a control focus in secondary. 2/3

October’s full moon is also named the Hunter’s Moon, once marking a time to gather food for winter.

It will be the first of three supermoons this year, glowing bigger & brighter.

β€˜Integration’ means contributing to this country’s prosperity, unity & equity. It means loving it enough to be champions of connection across the rich diversity of its people. That certainly doesn’t apply to those stirring prejudice & division. They do so for their own selfish gain. Shame on them.

Impartiality in the Civil Service - Heywood Quarterly Amanda Spielman, former Chief Inspector of Schools, describes how she approached the challenge of impartiality at Ofsted.

Former Chief Inspector of Schools writes about the importance of impartiality.

Does she sound impartial in relation to Ofsted and the Equality Act?

Spoiler at the end: she's now a Conservative peer.

Make it make sense!
