We will never be an egalitarian society as long as preparing for work and submission are the primary goals of education.

People will try to downplay this because it isn't the big win they might specifically want, but: public pushback just forced one of the largest & wealthiest media companies on the planet to walk back its capitulation to the regime. And that is power.

another way to say this: fascism isn't about rules people follow, it's about categories people are in

if you're in the right category nothing you do is bad
if you you're in the wrong category nothing you do is good

it's not about what you do, it's about who you are

they want us to fear them and they want this primarily because they can't actually do much to curtail our speech other than scaring us. there are far too many people who hate this president and everything he represents and won't be silenced for them to lock everyone up.

saying the regime is weak doesn't mean it's not dangerous. It means it's not invincible. The danger is in believing the image that they're invincible.

For those who don't recall, the closest ship to the Titanic was The Californian. They did not respond to distress signals. The Carpathia did, from much further away. That captain was a hero.

This is so worth your time.

@billmckibben.bsky.social says although โ€œthis is as dark a moment as there's ever been in our democracy,โ€ a surge in renewable energy is an "untold story" with huge potential.

"It's so big and so good that it might help with both the climate and the authoritarianism crisis.โ€

We can slow & fight the existing terrors of the world, while making real steps towards the beautiful future we know we can buildโ€”one in which a destabilized climate is unfortunately a central fact, but so is our willingness to work together and to care for one another and the ecologies we depend on.

them and the fact that they are actually NOT rare, but a representative microcosm of what we can be, gives me hope AND a reason to keep going, for them, because we/they deserve better. Enough of the status quo-serving demoralizing 'humans are inherently a terrible species' bullshit, please!

03.09.2025 14:43 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

spreading 'humans are a plague on Earth' messages is really shilling for Big Oil. That's their intentional, disruptive, divisive, demoralizing message. It resonates because of misinformation, but it's not true. Good humans are far more abundant. I work with them every day & remembering to appreciate

the level of excited and honored I feel when a friend actually asks me to go out of my way to do them a 'big' favor makes me feel like I should be less fiercely independent and ask favors of my friends more often. Do other people wish their friends would 'burden' them more or am I weird?

Since men have done such a shit job of running this country for the first 250 years, I suggest letting women run it for the next 250 years. At the end of their tenure we can decide whoโ€™s better at this.

Night Magic From a New York Times bestselling nature writer comes a celebration of what goes on outside in the dark, from blooming moon gardens to nocturnal salamanders,...

someone on here recommended this book and I can now wholeheartedly second that endorsement. WOW. Absolutely a new favorite! www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/leigh...

it's incredibly freeing and empowering to strengthen one's ability to resist capitalist hype/FOMO, and opt out of consumerist culture, even to a moderate degree. I hear that getting away from extreme consumption is pretty darn important to the health of our environment, too. 10/10 would recommend.

more importantly I feel good about not disposing of things that aren't REALLY disposable, adding to the weight of guilt about everything I've discarded sitting somewhere in a landfill. You hope for inert or recycled, but none of those things are a guarantee. Better to not discard if possible.

replaced by now is still with me, showing some years, but I can see the memories and personal growth in the wear and tear. I feel good about learning to care and repair instead of replace, saving the money for more important, fulfilling uses, but

I don't go quite to some of their extremes. E.g., spouse applied duct tape to hold together some decade-old wafer-thin flip-flops before grudgingly consenting to replace them after even duct tape was insufficient to keep them functional. It's satisfying though, to realize something I would once have
