Worth noting that this response actually concedes that what Pritzker said is true.

Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.

A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:

How do white people delude themselves into believing that they can identify anti-Black racism better than a Black person? Enough to refute the validity of a Black person’s claim of anti-Black racism??? Like…how does one get to that level of ability to lie to themselves?

the thing is:

there is nNEVERr any rest for black folk... when we say "we taking time for self" it doesnt immediately mean the same as when non-blacks say it: we always got shit to deal with β€” the shit that WE go through that our allies are blind to because of their proximities to privilege.

A publisher who lays off a reporter whose pen is freezing because she's covering a frigid war zone while dodging missiles is not an editor you want to work for, in a more perfect world

β€˜Barrage of Bills’ Would Upend Iowa Higher Edβ€”If They Pass The state’s new House Higher Education Committee has advanced a raft of bills that would hit universities’ pocketbooks, hide presidential candidates’ names, and more.

Consider the suite of β€œreforms” for public higher education in Iowa. This is a sweeping package that would dismantle public universities. The justification? Public money should go only to training people for high demand jobs. In the Postliberal University we call this a β€œneoliberal Trojan Horse”

I need you to listen to these people.

I’m not gonna post it because it’s genuinely so grim but there’s this comedian who set up a fake ICE tip line for people to call to report on immigrants and he posts their conversations on TikTok. The most recent post of his was a Kindergarten teacher who wanted one of her students parents deported.

How are we supposed to teach knowing there are students who deem us enemies because we believe in humanity and love?

How do we do our jobs while wondering which students think we (the enemies) should be felled (definition: to cut, knock, or bring down; kill)?

Black educators have always done more than teach. We carry history, culture, and responsibility in systems not built for us.

This BHM, I am highlighting Black educators making history right now. In classrooms. In schools. In communities.

If you are a Black educator, your work matters. We see you.

In 2023, CBP killed a young Black girl that they imprisoned by incarcerating her and failing to provide the needed medical care for her sickle cell anemia

You cannot reform this apparatus which kills people no matter which party is in charge
