Now my anti-vax/anti-medicine roommate has revealed that he's built his own rifle. I'm frightened beyond the capacity for rational thought. He may start using it to assert dominance, or he may threaten my life if I disagree w/ him on anything.

Goldman has rejected me for their next Neurodiversity Hiring Initiative. Apparently they found someone even more perfect for them than me. Do I not belong in this world? Would anything of value be lost if I were to go before my time is due?

I'm not sure I can trust my new roommate. He's one of those anti-vax, anti medication types telling me all kinds of health stuff that goes against everything I was taught. I don't think he's trustworthy.

Why doesn't anyone want me? My skills in data, I think, are good enough. But so far my only real prospect for a good job is with my old employer, Goldman Sachs. And what if I don't get that job? Should I just say better luck next life and end it all?

I discovered a message from another recruiter, saying he thinks I'd be a good fit for a data associate position. He listed several cities that I wouldn't mind living in, and told him I can start right away. Hopefully something will come of this.

So I didn't get the BI Analyst job with Maverik. It just wasn't meant to be. Guess I'll have to hope I get the job at Goldman Sachs now... That said, I was alerted to some jobs on LinkedIn where my connections are on the hiring team.

Yesterday's phone screen went well, I think. I'll know either way no later than Wed. January 14, but I think I have a real chance at this BI Analyst position with Maverik.

Here's more potential good news. Maverik, a gas station and convenience store chain out west, wants to have a phone screen with me for a Business Intelligence Analyst position I applied for a couple of weeks ago. The call will be next Thursday, 1/8/2026, at 2:15 PM.

I got this email from Specialisterne the other day informing me of another Neurodiversity Hiring Initiative from Goldman Sachs. What should I see but a Technology Audit Analyst position in NYC? Of course I had to apply, wanting to see all my family back east.

(2/2) The company, TransAmerica, looks to be above reproach, at least. My only concern is whether or not the Business Intelligence Analytics training I just finished with TripleTen would go to waste. Now maybe it will make me even more valuable to TransAmerica. That remains to be seen.

(1/2) So things may be looking up for me soon. I went to this networking event this evening where I met this guy who tells me my job searching woes may be over. From what he briefly talked about, this may be a benefits coordinator position. I hope I'm wrong.

(2/2) If you do, it's very hard to get out of it, even within the 3 day window you're given to cancel. I managed to get a moving broker to finally cave in and cancel my contract, but you may not be so lucky. In short, try to avoid moving brokers.

Lesson learned here: if you're looking to move in the next few months, but you don't know exactly where, and then someone calls you out of nowhere giving you a quote that sounds too good to be true, don't sign anything with them. (1/2)

And now the mock technical interview is in the books. One and done, just like the mock HR interview. Now on to the job search. If anyone following me knows a good recruiter, or better yet knows someone who's looking for a Data Analyst or BI Analyst, please let me know.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails From Zero and Trails To Azure

I just got back from FanX in downtown Salt Lake and wouldn't you know, they had a panel about filk music. Now I was raised partly on filk, especially Leslie Fish. Well until tonight, I was a little worried that filk had gone the way of the dinosaur.

And now my final project has been submitted for approval. If that goes well, and the mock technical interview goes well enough to not need another round, I'll start looking into recruiters.

It bears repeating; it was never about the kids, but about power and control.

I'm coming down the home stretch now in my Business Intelligence Analytics course by TripleTen. My mock HR interview went well, and my mock technical interview will be on Monday the 29th. Meanwhile, I have one last project to do to finish the course. After that, it's on to the job search.

Salt trucks in Chicago

Chicago literally using salt trucks to deal with ice. Can't get more Chicagoesque than that.
