per the other replies, consistent experience doesn't have to mean looks the same.. this conflates two different traits, one of which is accessibility, the other of which is branding

what we're wanting and are suggesting is more than possible outside the Electron framework.. which makes it super frustrating how few programs in that ecosystem even remotely come close, but are held as this benchmark in how it should be done.. 2/2

Addendum: KiCad works the same across platforms, and even has consistent design language w/ dialogs etc working the same.. but obeys the DE theme and colour scheme, thus integrating completely with the user environment and sports excellent screen reader support + rebindable shortcuts keys.. 1/2

accessibility.. yes, having an across-platforms-it-looks-and-works-the-same program is a certain kind of accessibility, however it patently ignores the kinds most useful to the disabled community and programs frequently ignore these explicit requests users make via their DEs. 3/3

like Discord decides to overhaul it's theming and suddenly is significantly brighter while still "dark themed", or some other Electron thing (most common cause of trouble) decides to ignore the dark request and drops us into a light theme interface.. that **hurts** and is extremely bad for 2/3

high contrast is not the same thing as photosensitivity friendly - we run Materia Dark as a theme which applies through both Qt and GTK, it is a lower contrast theme so it's less strenuous to look at for long periods and especially when photosensitive. it doesn't work well though when a program 1/3

There can be strong accessibility reasons, such as photosensitivity, or poor eyesight, that the user really wants things to look a certain way or have a particular minimum font size.. and that should arguably trump any application design stuff

it has advantages for the application developers if they care about brand above all else and don't care about accessibility.. if you care about accessibility and the user's needs.. you should want to integrate with their chosen theme for a consistent visual style *and matching their colour theme*
