Perhaps the request for corn could either be part of BR’s message, translated into crow / raven speak, or part of Bloodraven’s knowledge leaking out in crow / raven speak.

With “corn” being a metaphor for sacrifice – so BR could be telling them they need to sacrifice something, or it’s leaking out.

It’s a good question, I suppose we’re encouraged in that direction because Bloodraven is presented to us as the last greenseer, the person who Bran has sought and found. So we don’t have any sense of an alternative.
