incredibly this also mostly works for teenagers, who are really just large toddlers but are better at connecting the actions-consequences dots. but you also cannot fight them, because you will lose. (again, exceptions for safety etc)

my one (1) piece of parenting advice for toddlers is that the only winning move is not to play. don't want to wear a coat? ok, see how you like it when it's cold outside! don't want to eat? ok! be hungry! you can't fight them. they'll always win. (exceptions for safety, like seat belts/helmets)

sometimes I had to literally pin my children down to get them in their car seats or put shoes on or whatever and I'd be in a heavy sweat afterwards like I had been to the gym. they were like no more than 30 pounds at the time. toddlers have incredible strength

this whole thing is melting my brain on a daily basis and I don't know exactly how to articulate it but I think Marisa gets her arms around it in a way that is insightful and helpful to read

but I just hate what this world does to young women and I hope we don't lose sight of that aspect in all of this

Yeah sorry seeing that Olivia Nuzzi was making songs about being "jailbait" at 16 and no parent stepped in, that she was scooped up by a MUCH older and MUCH more powerful man when she was concerningly young...

This seems like a much sadder story than the current discourse on it suggests

as the mom of two teens let me just assure you, if you haven't spent time around teens lately: teenagers are absolutely still children even if they look older than they are. they are underdone -- they are still cooking! they are in no way adults in any sense of the word.
