Would anyone like my ticket to see @umbc.bsky.social alumna @itsafronomics.bsky.social and Chelsea Clinton in conversation at the @92ndstreety.bsky.social tomorrow (Weds) night? I’m sadly unable to make it but I know it will be a great event. Send me a DM. www.92ny.org/event/anna-g...

I saw the same issue in Econ so I wrote an article about placements at non-PhD schools. I saw the lit from other fields, and they all have we looked at only the top 100 PhD programs. So likely someone could write the poli sci one journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Gut check as some students work on econ PhD admissions for the coming year:
The mapping from GRE score to percentile has shifted a lot for quant in the past decade. (e.g., a score above the 90th percentile 15 years ago is at the 80th percentile now). Are PhD programs filtering on score or %tile?

I was thinking of this as a student is writing a paper comparing Portuguese and English papers on Bolsa Familia. It will be much easier for us to figure out which authors are at Brazilian institutions. I might have her look for Brazilian undergraduate degree too, which I'm hoping I can find

I thought there was a cswep issue in this but cannot find it. AEA has the below resources. I recommend talking to people at peer or similar institutions. I tried to build my network of local people like that around that time

Does anybody have DHS data for Bangladesh?

Or is there a webpage where somebody managed to save previously available DHS data?

Thank you for your help!

I'm at #CTREE I only recognize a few people here. There is no one posting about papers. I miss the old days of Econ twitter. FWIW I also see no posts on Twitter about CTREE (the first time I have probably logged in months)

My first sentence of every review starts the same with the title of paper so I can tell which reviewer I am when I get an 2nd round review request. I then summarize in a couple of sentences to set up a final sentence which previews the rest of the review

I got desk rejected in a week in September 2023. They said desk reviews take 2 weeks to a month when I submitted. Paper was a replication of a paper with dhs data in one country we added 11 more. Never found a home for that one

I can send it to you this summer, once it's ready. Early results look good. We gave $1,000 scholarships to students who repeated and passed Intro to Micro this fall. Looks like pass rates went up, will use Intro to Macro as comparison

Hey #EconSky #TeachEcon,

I'm teaching a 300-level undergrad class on the Economics of Higher Education this May for the first time.

Who else teaches this class? Would you be willing to share your syllabus? What's your favorite assignment for this class?

TIA!

How would this work in soccer? Part of the system is rotating players in and out and giving up lots of twos point baskets. Is this just a lot of ball pressure? Curious as a Grinnell alum and basketball fan with limited soccer knowledge

Hello, #econsky! I have a question for you:

What’s your preferred way to post working papers and track citations?

Are there drawbacks to using repositories like SSRN or arXiv?

Question for #econsky: What could cause coefficients to change when clustering on a group variable in Stata?

Context: In ACS data, I have an outcome that varies by location, occupation, and gender (Prop. of Occ-Gender group in CZ). I want to measure differences in mean by gender. [1/N]
