Correction: Canada paid 100% of it to advance the project because the Americans were repeatedly creating delays via voting against funding bills; unreasonable $ demands and/or lawsuits by the Ambassador bridge's owner to prevent construction, etc.

The new Gordie Howe bridge will also be collecting tolls too with all profits initially going to Canada to recoup the costs of building it but later the tolls collected will be split with Michigan 50/50.
