Save what we love. I repost a lot. I like to amplify. The flower in my avatar is a cereus, or orchid cactus. The banner is my cat Madmartigan’s paw on a knitting project of mine, red and blue two color brioche. My media tab is mostly cats and knitting.

An image of Princess Kate, with a background of red drapery and gilding and candles. It is a head shot, and she is wearing a blue evening gown you can just see on her shoulder, and a fairly large tiara. It is on her head crooked, both horizontally and vertically. She looks like a dumbass.

Okay, lots of buzz over Kate Wales turning up in the Oriental Circlet tiara. #JewelWatch

Data point one, IT IS ON HER HEAD CROOKED.

just a reminder as you read this very lovely thread of Charles Sumner-posting: Casten’s reputation is that of a business-friendly moderate.

the caucus may or may not be able to do anything about this, which may or may not be a real threat.

but they are *pissed*

There was extensive documented debate at the time 14A was drafted as to whether it would apply to Chinese railroad workers and gold rush workers' children. The answer was unequivocally that yes, it did. (5/3)

ICE agents under scrutiny after man’s legs allegedly crushed in Vancouver arrest The Vancouver Police Department is investigating after a man appeared to have his legs run over by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement truck while being detained Thursday.

ICE ran over an immigrant’s legs with their SUV while attempting to detain him.

His family can’t locate him.

This is eerily reminiscent of the LA car wash raids where a man broke his leg and then disappeared for over a month.

ICE had him chained to a hospital bed under an assumed name

A neat thing about birthright citizenship is how it tests whether a person cares at all about the Constitution. There's no argument against it, birthright citizenship is the unambitious text, the obvious intent of the drafters, and the undisputed way it was followed for the past 150+ years.

Ahhh, yes. A bit.

I think this is a reason why busy city streets are safer than deserted ones, or, actually, rural roads. Fewer witnesses with cameras.

I don’t know that we have fewer, but the predators we have start like they always do, with the ones they can get away with.
We still have people who vanish. I know we have people with no cell phones, and not many family or friends to notice.

That much money financing games by actual game developers would have financed 150+ of the highest budget AAA games, and the several orders of magnitude more jobs to produce them. Instead it was burned failing to produce advertiser-safe Second Life.

Frank Gehry, whose designs defied gravity and convention, dies at 96 Gehry transformed modern architecture with exuberant buildings such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Guggenheim Museum. "I've always been for optimism and architecture not being sad," he said.

I think everybody at NPR is glad our Susan Stamberg left us an advance obit for Frank Gehry. A legend on a legend.

Great reporting and a knockout final line:

“Not long after, as the sun was going down, an SUV with tinted windows and an out-of-state license plate was seen barreling down a nearby street. It was followed closely by three cars, with drivers laying on their horns and whistling.”

part of the reason i've got such contempt for the doomerism around "they don't think they'll have to win an election again" is that this belief — which i agree some of them hold — critically endangers the entire project, it doesn't strengthen it. they are incapable of shifting strategy or pivoting.

one way in which trump II is different than trump I is that there are far fewer people involved this time, and they're all true believers, so we're getting far fewer leaks this time around. i wouldn't be surprised if the number of people who know for certain what this is turns out to be less than 10

If you’re an egg eater and also a bad morning person, let me assist if you need to make eggs for sandwiches for your week.
Set out a 8 oz pack of cream cheese to get to room temp. An hour later, blend that with a dozen eggs (this is for all week) and 4 oz water.
Line a sheet pan with parchment.

This. 100%.

Even the Georgians and Victorians, those infamously brutal eras with too much of a penchant for capital punishment, didn’t execute smugglers without a trial, and mostly didn’t execute with one. (Transportation or impressment was more common.)

Bill Kristol is one of the few anti-Trump public figures I sincerely think looked at how his ideology led to Trump, said to himself "if what I believed led to this, what I believed is wrong" and acted on it.

WELL NOW, would you look at that? A massive, 24-YEAR-LONG study of MORE THAN 1.2 MILLION people in Denmark found NO LINK between aluminum in childhood vaccines and autism, asthma, OR chronic disorders.

Aluminum is an ADJUVANT.

It ENHANCES your immune response to a vaccine.

That’s it.

Hawaii Supreme Court Expands Rights of Defendants, and Once Again Rebukes SCOTUS The justices ruled that Hawaii’s constitution requires police to record interrogations. And they vowed to protect due process for Hawaii residents—unlike, they said, the Roberts Court.

This fall, Hawaii's supreme court rejected an argument that recording interrogations is burdensome for police: “If children can record everyday events with ease, law enforcement cannot claim hardship to record perhaps its most consequential investigative act.”
