For me it's the toilet *seat* part. I hope he at least means the toilet seat *cover* not the actual part you sit on to use the toilet - although any toilet with a seat flip-down cover also has a tank on the back with a nice, flat, waist-high surface on top that would make way more sense to use.

I used to take my son there when he was a baby - or I guess it was more like I took me there when he was a baby and I needed a break because I could put him in a backpack carrier and walk around until he'd fall asleep lol

Don't worry I cancelled him out by not tuning in to the super bowl *until* time for the halftime show, then switching it off right after the performance

Yeah sometimes it's just that one or more of the bulbs randomly lost its connection to the wifi router (once it was just that the app that controls them had updated T&Cs that I had to go in and agree to) so it's not a for sure sign the wifi is out completely - but you make a good point

Could be the neighbors have smart bulbs in their outdoor lights and their wifi went out. Mine flash when that happens. They don't stop until either the wifi comes back on or we switch the power off to them at the wall switch.

man I’m sorry to be all corny here but when I see a β€œthe city is beautiful! There’s more to it than homeless people!” I gotta say you know who’s also beautiful? People who have no place to live & are trying to get by in a system that has turned its back on them & if you don’t see that that’s on you

At least negotiations would have to involve conversations about the specific factors mentioned and potentially force the administration to show their hand at least a little. My bet is that CPB will prioritize protecting their tracking/database building objectives; making them say it would be telling

Sorry to burst your bubble but you'd need at least three times that much just to get anything resembling a "towering complex" of housing built, then you'd need to figure out how to come up with probably $5M-$10M a year for upkeep and operations if you want to keep rents remotely affordable.

Democrat Christian Menefee wins special election for vacant, deep-blue House seat in Texas Menefee will serve the remainder of the term won in 2024 by the late Rep. Sylvester Turner, who died almost a year ago.

Dems flipped a state seat - that's what most of the coverage I've seen on this Texas special election has focused on - but they also filled a U.S. House seat that's been vacant for almost a year. That seat is the one that brings the house split to 218-214.

not a lot of people know this life hack: instead of shoveling snow, you can just leave it and move away forever

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call β€œsymbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Hi friends, I am sharing this with permission. This is a newsletter I subscribed to from a woman who is a quilter. I started following her on YouTube a little over a year ago when I started my quilting journey, she lives in Minnesota.

I've never been a single-issue voter, but this one might win me over. I'd even be okay with bringing back pay toilets if there were subsidies for folks who needed help affording them.

Daffodil, a boy cat with long, fluffy black hair, white front paws and long white whiskers, is doing that stretch cats do where his front legs are stretched out in front of him and his head and chest are lowered to the ground. An orange cat wearing Christmas pajamas can be seen partially in frame behind Daffodil, admiring Daffy's epic stretch.

Daffodil, fancy and mid-stretch. He has zero street smarts but is a master at making humans do his bidding.

It’s cute when it means you apologize to a lamp for bumping into it. It’s not cute when you use it to claim a computer program sincerely regrets all the child sexual abuse material it’s been making.

Those lights are awful! Flashed my brights at an oncoming driver on a dark country road the other night because I was sure he had forgotten to switch his off - he flashed back at me to show me that no, those had just been his *regular* headlights, his brights were giant searing laser beams.

My first year on the high school newspaper was the year my school got 6 Mac Classics for us to do the layout on. I just missed having to use a phototypesetting machine. Our advisor didn't know how to use the Macs, she just told us to ... figure it out lol (we did)

People need to put the DATE of their yard sale on their FB marketplace posts and the signs they put up around town. Putting "Saturday" or worse, "Today!" is NOT sufficient. There's a Saturday every week, and a Today every day, and if I don't know WHEN you wrote that, how do I know WHEN to show up?!?

Why should only toddlers or toddler-adjacent people get to see the trucks and eat the nuggets? As a 50yo woman who currently has no toddler friends, I am offended at being excluded from this plan.

Someone should design a type of escrow that individual citizens could hold their federal withholding in until it's due each year. Just delaying delivery of that $$ could be pretty disruptive, I would think, and being able to earn interest on one's own income would likely be popular across the board.

Isn't communication between inmates typically prohibited (or restricted, at the very least)? I suppose the help of a third party could explain the postmark (and possibly even why it never reached its intended recipient) but a postcard with a prison return address on it seems like an odd choice.

Today is Homeless Persons' Memorial Day.

As unhoused people are brutalized, criminalized, and vilified nationwideβ€”and with so much invested in obscuring the root causes of homelessnessβ€”it's important to be clear: people are homeless because they have been deprived of housing they can afford.
